You can pay 20$ to remove the ads from within the app. The ads never bothered me. I used to have Sync for Reddit and that one I had paid like $5 to remove ads. But I think the developer had stopped updating it for like a year before sync for Lemmy came out. Maybe not enough incentive

The Summoner by Taran Matharu, also very similar zero to hero story, but also very fantasy where a peasant worthless kid gets inducted into a magic arts school and also becomes a very important hero. It’s story is actually very interesting
