  • A lot of games are compatible through a program called wine, but you usually need some amount of skill in order to use it. Also consider Proton, it’s originally a program from SteamOS, an official Linux distro made by Valve.

Games using kernel level anticheat are almost never compatible even through wine and proton. I’m not into gaming though, that’s just what I’ve heard.

There is a music player called Astra, it is currently in beta, but it seems to be worth trying out.

For sure you should try installing Linux to a non-main PC, that’s what I’ve done too.

  • I’d like to interject for a moment. While Linux can be indeed complex as a daily driver, Ubuntu is a specifically problematic distro. If you still consider using Linux, I would recommend trying Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu, but is more stable and doesn’t have snaps at all, only flatpak. Fedora also deserves to be mentioned, it has Atomic Desktop editions with important system components mounted read-only and a very straightforward update system with rollback option. For your case, Linux Mint Cinnamon edition is probably the perfect one, since it is dervied from Ubuntu and you won’t need to learn Fedora’s specifics. But don’t purge Windows, if you use apps you know no alternative on Linux.
