  • Yup, let’s your dealer spy on you to tell you when you need to come in and get your oil changes or tire rotations purely based on the 5,000 miles (and 6 month?) counter that will pop up on your dash anyway. And if you get any OBD2 fault codes the dealer can see that and tell you to “come on in so we can fix fault code X!”

    I’m not sure about the remote start, possibly. I know a lot of people are mad at Toyota for requiring an active subscription to keep using the remote start that’s built into their key fob after the trial expires, their solution might’ve been to just offer a longer free trial than 1 year on that.

    I know on my 2023 Camry SE Nightshade, it got 3 months of SiriusXM (Platinum/All Access?), 1 month/(3 GB?) of AT&T hotspot, 1 year of Safety Connect (emergency response if you crash and airbags deploy like GM OnStar and the ability to use the Toyota phone app to see 1. Odometer 2. Gas tank fill level 3. Tire pressures 4. Error codes/faults (have had none) 5. Recalls and TSBs

    Mine doesn’t have the ability to lock or unlock the doors from the app, or remote start from the app. The app is pretty useless to me. I can see any errors/faults and the tire pressures on my in cluster screen or radio. I don’t need to see the cars odometer or current gas tank fill level remotely. I can look up my VIN on the website manually for any recalls or TSBs, or they can snail mail me about recalls since I am the original owner.

    When my 1 year trial expires in a few months I will be revoking the permissions in the app so that the DCM will be disabled.
