I’m sorry that you believe people take comments that start with “I’m sorry” seriously. Well done for not finishing with “lol” though I guess. Ask chatgpt for help if this is all too complicated for you,

Digital games are not things, that is the point. The people who boast about how large their unplayed steam library is, are consumerist zombies, they are the same people who happily buy trash micro-transactions, and drool over their favourite developers, as their games get worse, and worse, and are released further and further from being ready for sale.
Do they teach you to end every sentence with “lol” in kindergarten?

Sounds more like you need a time machine, and a clue.

Streaming always seemed like a daft idea to me, part of that no doubt is using the internet back when it was dial up and it made no sense to even wait for a picture to load, but streaming always seemed likely to lead to control issues, which is why so many people are (appropriately) whining about subscriptions and dodgy companies now.
The media I download is generally just deliberately 1080p, mainly watched on a 50" tv. I rarely have any quality issues with it, but I am not chasing numbers, and apparently I am not particularly fussy either.
I’m reminded of when dvds were first appearing and they used to market them on vhs, stating ‘this is how amazing this looks on dvd’ …but they were showing it on vhs. People still got excited though… weird creatures.
Unless you are benchmarking, or chasing numbers, posing, or using over the top infrastructure (super large tv, projector etc) there is an easily reached quality point that is more than good enough for most people.

Interesting, not something i have heard of before, but definitely something I need to look into.
I emulate older console games, and assume there is the possibility that they are all I will be able to access one day.

That is the real issue. Physical media is just a waste of resources, we should be past that by now.

How to collect downvotes: Post any criticism of steam, whether valid, or not.
How to collect upvotes: Brag about how many games you have purchased from steam, but have never played, because being a consumerist zombie is hella cool.

I prefer a gui, and have little faith in a company that is unwilling, or incapable of providing a decent one. Mullvad has a very good gui on linux, and android, as well as a browser extension. Airvpn has a linux app that looks 20 years old and doesn’t even have split tunnelling, apparently their android app also doesn’t have split tunnelling, so wtf are they actually doing, and where is their roadmap?

Assuming the top graph is accurate, it says a lot more about the reality, at least as far as steam ‘data’ is concerned https://www.gamingonlinux.com/steam-tracker/
The ‘issue’ is not a “dip” in June, the issue is the May data/variance, as well as the April data/variance. June appears normal.

It’s the steam survey, it’s rough as guts. Why would anyone even post this ‘result’ let alone try to market it as ‘oh no linux is dying fam bro lol’
It’s 0.3%

0.3% change on the steam survey is not a “dip” it’s a blip.

I’m not worried about ubuntu, or its offshoots. It is disappointing that a linux distro would go that way, but they were always towards the top of the list of one’s most likely to.
I don’t believe your assessment is accurate, but I’m not worried about that either.

Your partner is “fervently anti-AI”, but you are not.
Is your partner engaging in/reading this thread, and making up their own mind, or are they allowing you to make a decision that doesn’t necessarily reflect, or respect their choices?
Using a different base does not complicate things as much as you might expect, and may also be logical considering you are anti-snap

ubuntu going down the ai toilet, and fedora trying to, makes me happy that I chose arch. ubuntu and fedora corporate ties are one of the reasons why I made that decision, and are also why they are making the wrong decisions, and are likely to get worse.
ai could have been good, but take a look around you, humanity cannot be trusted.
Is it really his foot, or is it just vibe-coded?
