The Onion@midwest.social•Our Mission at the Environmental Protection Agency Is Simple: Destroy the EnvironmentEnglish
4·2 months agoIt’s a genius play, really. If there’s no more environmental problems, then how the hell would environmental agencies make money!?

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•What's geologic hydrogen? What to know about the clean energy source buried under Michigan.
9·2 months agoWhile it definitely looks promising to use hydrogen for the no-carbon benefits, you do still have to wonder about other environmental impacts. What’s going to happen to when the hydrogen pockets empty? Land subsidence could potentially be a problem, so I think more research about possible side effects is absolutely necessary before any large scale extractions happen.

Green - An environmentalist community @lemmy.ml•Amsterdam bans fossil-fuel and meat advertising in public spaces
13·3 months agoCritics highlight concerns about freedom of speech and the potential for companies to face restrictions in promoting or competing with their products, even more sustainable ones.
Want to compete with more sustainable companies? Become more sustainable yourself, simple as.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Wind & Solar Surpassed Fossil Fuels In EU In 2025 - CleanTechnica2·3 months agoEven so, baby steps are still steps. Just because not everything has been replaced doesn’t mean it won’t get replaced in the (far) future.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to avoid hating the opposite gender after reading what they write online?
5·3 months agoInteract with them in person. Men and women write a lot of polarising shit online, but once you go outside it’s (usually) not that bad. Sure, there’s always some asshats here and there, but I feel like there’s also a lot more good people around than you realize.

Memes@lemmy.ml•More than half of US families are one paycheck away from homelessness.
91·3 months agoIf one paycheck is all that stands between half of the people and homelessness, can it really be called the “middle” class?

science@lemmy.world•‘A bombshell’: doubt cast on discovery of microplastics throughout human bodyEnglish
6·3 months agoSo, just science being science then? Disagreements have always been a part of science, and always will be. The only important factor is how they are handled. Think a study is flawed? Repeat it, and change the flaws to see if the results differ significantly. But openly discrediting any evidence (for or against a case) without testing is as unscientific as it gets. I believe the person at the end also has a point: yeah, we don’t know if microplastics are as bad as they say, but better safe than sorry.

11·3 months agoForced upgrades (or downgrades) really are the worst. Same for opt-out services instead of opt-in. Give choice back to the customer goddammit!

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Once beset by pollution, Beijing's skies are clearer than ever thanks to EVsEnglish
1·4 months agoLike all countries, there’s some good and bad things to say, but I think that investing in renewables was a very smart move on their part.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Once beset by pollution, Beijing's skies are clearer than ever thanks to EVsEnglish
1·4 months agoIt’s always nice to see some good news in the shitshow that is modern day life, makes me hopeful that a better future is still possible. I hope that one day Beijing (and the rest of the world) can go back to clean air 365 days a year.

The ozone layer never gets any rest now does it :(
