Handling payments/“farm security” for USDA now. Whole-ass press release about being proud to defend the breadbaskest of the fatherland. I’m sleepy but “palantir usda” should get you there
That’s the smile after “I use arch, btw” for sure
More pls, where’s this from?
No sweet without bitter, light without dark, etc. The intensity rather than quality of an experience is what engages us. Contrast between cat pics and war crimes makes your feed hit harder

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I tell my dad that his mistake almost cost me a fortune?
2·4 days agoIf your kids aren’t better than you at something you fucked up imo. Hope those know it all assholes know you respect them too, this whole world is way too competitive and that kind of recognition from a parent is incredibly affirming

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I tell my dad that his mistake almost cost me a fortune?
3·4 days agoIt’s about what dad can gain from being told. Covering up a mistake like this is condescending and any confidence that lets him keep is false. Part of being up to the job is a realistic idea of your capabilities and the ability to receive feedback. If dad’s still a peer and a real part of the team, he needs (and gets) to know. Hiding accidents like this to maintain a more comfortable reality is how you handle a patient during end of life care, not someone who’s still living and working in the world we share.
Conversely… at some point our capabilities dwindle, no one gets to participate in our shared reality forever. If your father’s at a point where you need to shelter and protect him there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s quite a heavy responsibility to assume and not necessarily going to be easy or fun for either of you. Very similar commitment to raising a child, but keeps getting harder until they die instead of easier as they grow. It’s heavy stuff and no one here can answer this for you op. The way you frame this makes you seem like an intelligent and caring person, you’ve got this. Good luck out there.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you had to pick the dystopia to live in, what would it be?
4·8 days agoThis one, I’m used to it
…when someone seems normal you aren’t looking to explain their differences. The chance to socialize in the real world as opposed to a classroom environment is one of the things I value most about that period. We clearly have very different perspectives, in my community yours might be socially awkward. And that’s ok, it is in no way “crucial” for you to think feel or act the way I do :)
I was homeschooled for pretty much the exact opposite ideological reasons, and am so grateful to have had the chance to explore and develop without institutional constraints. Some great years traveling in a bus and seeing how a wide variety of people lived. To me homeschooling is an ideal of time commitment to a child that most people are unable to achieve, and offloading that opportunity to a centralized authority while you pursue a paycheck is a tragic compromise

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•another windows zeroday, the repo text is hilarious
16·10 days agoAll of this is 100% correct, but to shed some light on the perspective you’re replying to: this deep into dystopia, slimy business bullshit as opposed to literal dictates from the surveillance state counts as “organic growth” for a lot of people

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most transgressive art you enjoy?
1·15 days agoIf you tried to make them today, you would just be a poser.
False. Idolizing that snapshot and discouraging human output misses the point entirely and is the worst poser take on the subject I can imagine. Curated sips of ancient counterculture are just pretentious self indulgence if you aren’t drawing inspiration, and disparaging those who would actually participate is extra gross. Go make a zine about how much you love old zines, it’ll be fun

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Your phone is a snitch in your pocket, and the law won't save you. It's time to break the surveillance machine.
5·19 days agoI mean… I genuinely believe your phone (and the watch I correctly assumed you wore) log all of those things, for a start. It’s essentially free for them to do and there’s value to be extracted from that data. My earnest answer to the mocking strawman question you pose would be that you, garmin, your healthcare provider/insurance company, various advertisers, and law enforcement for a start would love to know the frequency, consistency, and volume of your shits for various reasons and that same data on a population in aggregate is even more valuable.
Anyway if you want hyperbole, informing the corpos of your turd girth is a traitorous betrayal of our species and will be punishable by death when the revolution comes. Hope you’re having a nice day lol
