New data shows 47 percent of those who visited their GP in 2018 were dispensed at least one antibiotic.
But don’t despair! It’s quite an exciting time for antimicrobial awareness in New Zealand! In 2017, Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health in conjunction with Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand launched the “New Zealand Antimicrobial Resistance Action Plan” which established the “New Zealand Antimicrobial Resistance Action Plan Governance Group” (NZAMRGG). The group meets 3 times per year and the only meeting notes published are from 2019. In those meeting notes “Bryan Wilson” sent apologies. It isn’t clearly stated if this is the Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys but it’s important to note the spelling is different.
It is difficult to understand if the group was effective because they only seemed to publish notes from one meeting which consists mostly of planning and action items.

What!?!? Where is the pekapeka-tou-roa / long-tailed bat?
From a privacy perspective, I don’t like this. From a road safety perspective, it sounds like it might not be as effective as they claim:
And Ministry of Transport research from 2017 found 85 per cent of the road toll occurred below the speed limit.
Matthew-Wilson said speed cameras, even the new point-to-point cameras, would not lower the road toll.
He said speed alone was a factor in just 15 per cent of fatal crashes, adding there is a minority of people who would speed no matter what, and they were the ones who were involved in speed-related crashes.
“Speed cameras seem like a magic solution, but they’re not: they alienate ordinary motorists without affecting the behaviour of the tiny minority who cause most fatal crashes,” he said.
😂 True. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work.
Crazy question: Do you have VLC installed? It won’t work in a browser. VLC is an open source video player.

Ahh, the old Telegram as a reliable source of information. I’d say there’s a 20% chance the information in that post is worthwhile.

Buying political favours has turned that place into a hot mess inside a dumpster fire on a train wreck. I don’t want to watch it happen here.
It’s a bit more mundane than that:
- The right mainly point to history similar to social-fasicm.
- The left mainly point to evolving forms of neo-fascism.
If we are arguing past each other, it’s pretty tough to solve any real problems.
It’s funny because the right wing people I’ve met talk about socialism and leftist politics being fascist. Left wing people talk about alt right populist movements as being fascist.
That indicates a highly functional propaganda machine is controlling narratives and sowing division.
Can anyone in Southland describe what it’s like for them?

This is hilarious. How far do you think power travels from a centralised generation plant?
I’m all for new solar but the rebates going towards residential installs will go directly in the pockets of the same companies that are squeezing us as they make billions in profit.
Without similar DER/VPP legislation they have in Australia, the markets will continue to be skewed in favour of the big gentailers. I agree that this is a separate issue from the distributed generation needing to be installed but don’t stop there. Let’s take it all the way and make a level playing field for small generators.
I wonder if this would have been considered a “power play” in a different century.
