10 months agoI drove a 530d MHEV for a month or so and loved it. Where you noticed it was from pulling away. The electrics start the car moving, which of course is instant, and then the diesel takes over.
In my experience this system is used more to improve vehicle responsiveness than to improve emissions / economy, but for that along I’d absolutely go for it. From what I have seen (however limited) it appears to work and as it doesn’t involve big battery packs or wall chargers you also avoid the big cons of ‘proper’ hybrids.

(And I say that with a sunroof).
Beautiful car though, and each to their own at the end of the day.
