AFAIK, you are correct, Lemmy does not have karma. Piefed has some sort of karma/reputation by account, but I think it’s geared more toward easing moderation than providing a status symbol

Raw milk should be treated like ice cream - never let it get too warm, unless you’re pasteurizing or boiling it. Jesus Christ, these people.

I have multiple friends with dairy goats, and I end up with milk a lot of the time. They’ve always told me it was raw, and I never was too worried about it, because they’re small operations and I trust their hygiene practices. Hell, I’ve milked the goats myself! And I went on for a few years happily drinking raw milk and making raw goat cheese. And if I ever shared it, I would tell people it was raw, but I never thought much about it.

Somewhere along the way, over the past few years, I noticed that conservatives were getting more and more into raw milk - the same folks who were really into ivermectin and the anti-vax stuff. And you know what I did? I read more about the risks, learned how easy home pasteurization is, and started fucking pasteurizing my milk. It’s not hard, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Plus, I want to be the cool friend who knows how to make their own cheese, not the weird conspiracy theorist talking about how they’re oppressed by the FDA.

I’ve heard that argument in favor of uniforms, but it also happens that then the kids with older, hand-me-down uniforms just wind up being bullied. In my opinion, suppressing children’s self-expression through uniforms does more harm than good.

But yeah, it was very dumb. I guess no boys had ever tried to wear jewelry before, but then I came along wearing necklaces and multiple rings, and they had to shut that right down. I do take a small amount of pride in being rebellious enough to cause a rule to be made haha

But now as an adult, it’s so weird - why were a bunch of adults so concerned about whether a kid in elementary school likes to wear rings?

1. I was so relieved when my wife came out to me as bisexual, you know, “just in case”

2. Being jealous of women for having all the fun colors and variety in clothing, feeling dejected that men’s fashion was much more utilitarian and boring

3. Feeling uncomfortable and not knowing how to act in groups of all men

4. Having the thought “if I could decide for myself on a do-over, I’d want to be a lesbian woman”. I assumed all men felt this way lol

5. Hating and vigorously resisting the gendered uniform rules enforced by my Catholic school (like growing my hair as long as possible, and the school had to make a rule saying that boys couldn’t wear jewelry other than a religious medal or a watch)

Oof, I’m right there on #6. I have my estrogen, but I haven’t started it yet, because I want to freeze sperm first, but I have this nagging fear of taking it and realizing I’m not trans enough to keep transitioning. A very cis thought to have, I’m sure.

Yeah, nutomic and some of their statements were a significant factor motivating my switch from Lemmy to Piefed. I’m glad we have the option here on Blahaj, and shout out to the Voyager dev for adding Piefed support!

I absolutely do not agree. Will things get worse? Yes, no sugar-coating it. But every fraction of a degree matters, and defeatism gets us nowhere. There’s still plenty to be done. So either get on board with helping, or stay out of the way, rather than trying to drag the rest of us down.
