Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People who live in hot and humid regions, what do you generally do or have seen done to reduce the effects of the heat?

In theory, yes.
In practice, most if not all banks in The Netherlands killed their NFC payment module and suggest the use of Apple/Google services instead. I assume this is the same for most smaller countries and banks.
TIL not every country uses NFC for contactless payments.
FYI, metadata of any of those payments are routed through Apple or Google systems. Use a physical card (with or without NFC) instead if you don’t want this.

75·13 days agoPlease stop sharing propaganda. This is old news. Nothing shifted. And if ir did, it happened a decade ago.
Wikipedia: The missile was tested on a Shenyang J-16 fighter in 2016. (…) In October 2022, Chinese state media reported that the PL-17 entered PLAAF service.[8]

Linux@lemmy.ml•How do you setup swap when installing Linux if the system has SSD?
4·18 days agoI have learned about the existence of zram and zswap today, and added a higher priority RAM swap on my workstation to reduce swapping to SSD. Should speed things up even more.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Induction cooktops, electric kettles sales surge amid LPG supply concerns2·1 month agoThe war and its consequence suck.
But I feel like the current levels of hardship this imposes on Europe and Asia are bmatikl bearable, and a good motivation for further reduction of dependency on fossil fuels (especially those imported).
What are you talking about?
Use FOSS software, and run games using Proton. Doesn’t really matter whether they’re pirated or bought.

When I do this the other way around (go to lemmu.bestiver.se/search and search for !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml), I do see a hand full of (old) results.

Climate@slrpnk.net•40% of global ship traffic is simply moving fossil fuels around! Renewables make much of this traffic obsolete1·2 months agoYes, as far as I’m able to understand it, ammonia is quite promising for certain industrial purposes (and to run the tankers themselves). Engineer the right engine, and it could potentially run on ammonia while acting as a cracker. Temp store excess hydrogen, and use that for the second part of your journey (or sell it for onshore purposes).

Climate@slrpnk.net•40% of global ship traffic is simply moving fossil fuels around! Renewables make much of this traffic obsolete11·2 months agoOffshore wind and onshore solar excess can be used to produce hydrogen, not coal.
It takes extra steps and introduces inefficiencies, but it is able to store larger amounts of energy than batteries, and can be used in certain industrial processes which do not run on wires and electrons.
In a succesfully electrified world, it is likely that some ammonia and hydrogen is shipped around the world for such use cases. The main alternative is to keep using fossils.

Still better than the status quo.

Great thing they’re getting support.
But there’s absolutely nothing uplifting about this story as a whole.
