1 year ago- Fast as fuck: I went from a 5.0L Mustang GT to a 1.7L Kia Optima Diesel, and whilst the Optima was rock solid and got absurdly fuel economy (nearly 70mpg!), I missed the pace. My Dual Motor EV6 is the fastest car I’ve owned, period. It makes my old V8 feel like practice mode. Bonus is that the chassis is a peach and it drives just as well.
- No maintenance: first four years according to the service schedule from Kia is the cabin air-filter and nothing else.
- Cost to run: Even with my old diesel’s insane fuel economy, it was still touching £160 a month, and it would’ve been more since fuel prices skyrocketed just as I traded in the car. EV? About £24 a month at it’s worst to go the same distance.
It’s weird that they’d use Germany as the example where pure BEV is below 20%. As of August 2023, the share of new BEV + Hybrid vehicles in the UK is 38%. By the end of the year we could be seeing as many as 1 in 4 new cars being pure battery electric.
