  • If an undergraduate program’s graduates don’t earn more than workers who never went to college, that program could be cut off from federal student loans. The same goes for any graduate program whose graduates earn less than someone with only a bachelor’s degree. About 18% of undergraduate certificate programs, which often bill themselves as career-focused fast tracks, would fail the earnings test. Specifically, certificate programs in cosmetology and somatic body work have the highest predicted failure rates. Two-year associate degree programs have the next highest failure rate, at 6%. Associate programs that train specialized educators, including early childhood educators, are the most likely to fail. Most traditional, four-year bachelor programs fare well, with roughly 1% failing the earnings test. When these programs do fail, it’s often in areas like theater, music and studio art. About 4% of master’s degree programs would fail, with the highest failure rates for programs teaching mental and social health services.

I get what they are getting at but the measure by which they are using isn’t the best. Like maybe we don’t need more cosmetologists and somatic body workers but It’s a sad day when we defund art, theater, music, mental health, philosophy, and the like.

  • I mean I’m not too plugged in either but I feel like I see it about as often as I see complaints like this post. Also they do exactly that or sign and auction items for charity. I would say with their time and proportional to what normal people normally give the celebrities who are involved in philanthropy tend to give more than your average person and yet get scolded for it.

Billy Eilish recently donated 11.5M or about 22% of all of her money. Generally speaking we don’t normally see people donating 20%+ of all of their money and I’m speaking about people who have the capacity to give 20%+. Now I’m sure there will still be people angry at what she chose to donate to or arguing that she didn’t give enough and so on. I personally don’t like people attacking philanthropy short of the charity being a scam. All giving is good and all publicity is good. For worthwhile causes and charities. I would much rather us focus our attention. On scam charities of which unfortunately there are many in this world.

  • Once again I disagree. The general circumstance that someone or a group wants something that another individual or group does not want to give is just an aspect of being alive. It can be as simple as simple as a predator and prey to someone getting mugged to a genocide, X wants something Y doesn’t want to give. Now how is that not an aspect of reality?

  • They are damned if they do and and damned if they don’t. If they don’t then people lambast them for not utilizing their platform. If they do then they’re sticking their nose into not their business and not donating enough no matter how much they donate. There’s no way to win for them, then again being a public figure is a curse and guarantees there’s always someone who’s going to be disgruntled.

I say all publicity for a good charity is good and all giving is good. If someone makes 100K and gives 50 that’s awesome, if someone makes 40k and gives 20 that’s also awesome, all donations are good to a worthwhile cause and charity.

  • They could just run. I doubt Russia would kill all 39M Ukrainians, Israel on the other hand most definitely is trying to kill all Palestinians. Russia just wants a buffer zone between them and NATO as well as those very valuable natural gas deposits and of course a port that doesn’t freeze shut every winter. Also to boot the Kievan Rus originate in that area so it’s kinda like taking back their ancestral land.
