I think there is a lot of misunderstanding in the world about the scale of the USA’s problems, what individuals in the military do, what caused them enlist, how our population is orders of magnitude greater than most nations and how that has such a powerful effect and consequence to our democracy / republic.

I dont go around making these wild claims about other nations but many folks outside US see no issue for to make uninformed, inflammatory statements about us.

Its easy for them say : military bad Its true but not comprehensively true, as if it would be so easy for us to just stop. This shit is an incomprehensible large machine that has inertia…and it truly truly sucks. But can we please prioritize blaming and holding accountable the mother fuckers making these damn decisions instead of a mother fucking janitor or an accountant or truly does fuck all and definitely isnt killing anyone.

I just think that (1) its mentally easy to quickly assign blame on others, (2) it is not necessarily accurate when one does not specify whom (which person(s) (3) or aligned with the current international legal standards for crimes or violations. There are varying levels of responsibility and accompanying guilt- but this is sort of a slippery slope to think like this but it is true.

An international trial would not convict all Americans of a crime and then sentence them. The trial would convict ‘natural persons’ whom made the decisions, and also ‘natural persons’ whom performed aggression such as a drone operator, possibly aviators, (but only true in Nuremberg to a limited extent ) but there are thousands aboard the ship whom are indeed complicit but

I would not sentence them to death, writ large, or else. At the most a fine or some injunctions regarding federal or military employment and or voting.

The wars in Sudan— The war in Ukraine– I feel bad for all of them, I know many Russians are forced to die at the hands of the state. To much lesser degree some Americans are forced to facilitate war thru less bold or violent mechanisms.

Undoubtedly the Iranians noninvolved are suffering orders of magnitude greater than the ‘boys’ ln ship. But comparing suffering is not helpful on the individual level. The system level, it is certainly.

What I am I really saying is that responsibility for the acts of violence, is often attributed to the ‘wrong’ people. And so I was seeking some clarification.

I would agree with a Dutchman or an Iranian saying ‘America and all of its citizens are responsible for the violence, and it is bad’. I can accept this is a fairly true snd congruent statement.

I would not agree with an American saying that an unspecified group of people (individuals)onboard a ship are responsible for the violence whilst they share no responsibility in it, are morally superior and clean.

The fact is that the causality of our acts of violence are distributed—and if we begin to assign levels of complictness to individuals and groups we ought to do so carefully. Voting, for example, is not the only way one can be complicit (or increase their complictness). Agency is a real factor.

Hopefully this guy or gal that took the photo had some sauces they smothered on there before eating it. Bringing a few bottles of chicken fil a sauce is always prime.

I think the roast beef or something is labeled as ‘gyro meat’ aboard the carriers-experience.

What it is actually made of I have no idea.

The carrier often operates on a ‘pay check to pay check’ diet. The machine is packed with food stores, ammo, repair parts, etc and then it sallies forth.

The food is cooked, eaten, spoiled, otherwise consumed and must be replenished. Replenishing the machine is a huge phenomenon. Sometimes.the replenishing does not happen soon enough or there is rationing because they know the ritual of replenishment can only happen on x date which is a long way out.

With news articles like the one hyperlinked by someone, im sure the priests of the machine are going to ensure to gather a bountiful replenishment and spoil the men and women of the machine as soon as is actually possible–hopefully.

-remove winter clothing, wash, dry, refold -Delete old emails and create new email / up date subscriptions / cancel subscriptions -Relearn polynomial equations -memorize birds common in (my area) -learn how to identify trees in (my area) And then -Pay off credit card debt [doesnt seem as worthwhile compared to relearning polynomial despite it’s abject greater practicality and value]

For me its the attention amd focused I’ve got time, just not tje attention and motivation (I fantasize but procrastinate)

I have been the 3rd or 4th dune book for about a year now (I have been on the last 50 pages or so for probably 6 montjs)

I have resd the first half or so of Don Quixote about 3 times

I habe now started to read Herodotus Histories for the 2nd time (didn’t finish last time stopped around half way thru Book 2)

And I made the (fortuitous?) mistake of starting Hitch hikers Guide to the galaxy twice now and I did really enjoy it right off the bat, so that one might rise to the top of the list lol

I have also begun reading Amadis of Gaul due to interest in Medeival Chicalry novels and I’ve yet to finish King Arthur (Mark Twain) whereat I only have maybe 100pgs left. (Not a good book, TBH but it gives some background to Quixote as does Amadis of Gaul

LOTR is definitely also in this ridiculous list of want to reads. As is

Divine Comedy Aeneid Decameron Pilgrims Progress Infinite Jest Grapes of Wrath Something by Ishiguro Metamorphosis etc etc etc

Yeah I get it and I dont deny that. Having never read the books though, I find the movies to be somewhat difficult to follow and with the exception (probably) of the first movie, I simply dont find them memorable or ranked high in my own mind as something I want to re watch.

I’ve always found Harry Potter universe to be quite campy. But I also never got into Lord of the Rings and thought Game of Thrones was awful so my opinion on television media may not be average or popular.
