  • M Sport brakes are optioned as far as I know for non-M vehicles. You can go with either M Sport (blue), or M Performance (red), and they can be fitted retroactively so discuss that with the dealership before you leave and they be able to get installed for you for the trip home. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy that trip home, you’ll be in for some fun.

  • Depends on what M240i model year you’re after. In the newer ones (2022+ model year), they’ve updated the interiors to at least match the rest of pre-single screen (anything before 2024 model year) lineup, so you might find something you like.

As well, it’s important to be realistic with your costs too, for both your and your wallet’s sake. I obviously don’t know your financial situation, so it’s difficult to suggest what vehicle you should go after, but I’ll give you some advice based on how I purchased my vehicles: if gas and insurance costs are things that you have to think past “which account are they coming out of”, then you probably shouldn’t get the car. Horsepower should only be a dealbreaker or significant factor once you’re clear of the financials. You’re better off with a full wallet in a 2-series than an empty one in an M car.

That being said, I would shop around for something certified pre-owned so you needn’t worry about maintenance for a while, that way you can put all your purchasing power into the sticker itself. Also, don’t be afraid to search for vehicles a little further from home as well. Far places (road trip length) can have great rewards, and you get an opportunity to bond with the vehicle from day one.

  • I know the comparison might be inappropriate, but I have and regularly cycle between a 330i and an M440i, both XDrive. They do drive differently, but it’s only obvious when driven back to back. In my experience, the 330i is a little less responsive to acceleration and steering than the M. Interestingly, I’d say the 330i in sport is closest to the M440i in Comfort. I imagine a similar comparison could be made with the M340i.

Noise to the cabin being different is a given. The 330i sounds sexy still, but it just can’t beat the M. I’d had my babies for some time now and I still grin like an idiot every morning when I hear that cold start.

The 330i is a wonderful machine and functions as an exceptional daily, and does well for harder trips (I’ve used it for 14 day+ camping trips with no lack of storage for necessary cargo, and just wrapped up a cross-Canada road trip), all while getting what I consider to be great fuel economy given the circumstances. All that being said, get the M340i. You get the benefits above and it looks and sounds like heaven.
