Man I’m just in constant awe and gratitude for how many of these things you have! I’ve been Trek memeing for a while but most of these are totally new to me, I feel like I’ve been living under a rock. You’re a beautiful human and we love you! ❤️🖖

I actually have to get around to reading the rest of the Sprawl books. Rereading Neuromancer now and might just keep going in the others.
What are things like at Starylight.social?
Snowcano@startrek.websiteto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Big Tech companies are finally getting the names we thought dystopian megacorps would haveEnglish1·2 years agoNothing, I was just saying that it’s a cool cyberpunk corporation name. For me the gaudy names like Meta and X are a little on the nose, true evil lurks under a veneer of banality which I think names like TA have.

…which many of us can relate to. :P
I really liked what Voyager had with the basic episodic format but with a slow accumulated progress over time. It’s a happy medium between totally disconnected eps and hyper-serialized continuous stories.
Oh god, I forgot about that! Season 1 of this show just really needs to be chucked into a memory hole. I don’t understand how people defend it as “the only decent season of DSC.” It’s absolutely wretched by every measure, but even more so when measured against the tone and optimism that’s vital to Trek. Subsequent seasons are fumbling messes, sure, but the first is a special kind of awful.

Writers and actors are encouraging people to keep watching and taking about shows & movies because that underscores the value they bring and are trying to get recognition for, ultimately bolstering their case.

Snowcano@startrek.websiteto Daystrom Institute@startrek.website•Episode Analysis | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 2x09 “Subspace Rhapsody”English4·2 years agoCurious what others think about this, but I was wondering about the mechanism for how the parameters of the quantum uncertainty field were defined to create a reality that follows the ‘rules’ of the musical genre. Uhura transmitted Anything Goes into the subspace fold, but that’s just a structured harmonic pattern (or however Pelia called it) and even if you took the song’s content into account, it doesn’t inherently contain any kind of comprehensive definition of common musical tropes (songs tending to give voice internal character motivations, choreographed dancing, songs combined into a medley, etc).
So were the crew thoughts somehow influencing the “selection” of the improbability fields? If so, how? Is the subspace fold sentient somehow? And even if so, all the anomaly knew was that a ship full of life forms was beaming something at it, how would it know which life form in which room was the one pressing the button and that their thoughts should be doing the ‘driving’? (Heaven help us if it decided to read Ensign Johnson’s mind down on Deck 7 and get a glimpse into the world of Federation-era Furry fandom!) What do you think?
Personally, I think this is some good ol’ fashioned TOS-style handwaving that we’re not meant to think too much about, but that’s not the kind of thinking we get paid for around these parts. 😜

Honestly, I would put those above mirror universe episodes any day of the week.
Hot Take: the only truly good mirror universe episode was Mirror, Mirror.
