  • Controversial opinion here, please read everything before formulating an opinion :p

That’s a very complicated way of saying “almost never,” because under the current social-economic system, people need money to survive, and most people, in the US at least, have a savings balance of something very close to zero. Even if everyone in the US quit their jobs today and starved on the streets, I heard there are many skilled workers in China who are currently unemployed. If all the laborers in Europe walked out tomorrow, I heard there are many starving African children who would labor 25 hours a day for a bite to eat. For a general strike to be even considered, UBI must be implemented globally, which we are not even close to doing.

  • That’s right, if we kick the bucket, a new intelligent civilization would not have the resources to advance at our pace. They may figure out the atom, but they won’t have the resources to utilize their knowledge. Then there is the ever looming threat of a disaster, and these preindustrial civilizations will be wiped out with zero warning or preparation.

Also: what are the chances a species similar to us in intelligence will emerge again on this rock? I’m going to bet it’s pretty darn tiny.

  • Texas is connected to the Eastern (Florida to Canada) grid, the Western (Cali to Canada) grid, and a Mexican grid not part of the US/CA system via tie-ins. It is the only state in the continental US with it’s own grid, which was not a smart decision (cough cough feb 2021). The most outrageous part was that they could have bought power from Mexico, east, or west and import it via those tie-ins during Feb 2021 but chose not to. Power was out for millions for over a week in freezing temperatures. Fuck Texas. Fuck CenterPoint Energy.

Additional Information: Besides Texas, Quebec and Alaska have their own grids as well. Alaska is the only grid without any tie-ins.
