2·1 month agoGrapheneOS is an open-source fork of AOSP. Anyone could fork it again and provide kernel modules/drivers for their hardware.
To my knowledge, GrapheneOS is not standards-based. They take one operating system, and tweak it. I don’t know if there are relevant standards to contribute to, or even standards bodies to approve them.

1·1 month agoThere needs to be a give and take
If GrapheneOS can’t handle the maintenance burden, there is nothing to negotiate.
Presumably, maintaining software for a niche phone requires effort similar in magnitude to a larger, mainstream phone. Why, then, would a solely privacy-oriented org choose to cater to a smaller audience?
Some of those signs don’t have the translation underneath.

11·1 month agoThe hardware requirements are public. Those manufacturers have chosen not to implement supported hardware, which is step 0.
There is also a maintenance burden for the GrapheneOS team. The ROM requires kernel patches and driver work that makes supporting additional phones intensive work.

Kinda like subcontracted?
I used to get my old Oneplus phones repairs scheduled through the Oneplus website, but I was just given a shipping label for a different company in texas. I consider that 2nd party🤷♂️
GOG seems to cap installer downloads to 4mbps. Cyberpunk’s installer has 28 parts. Huge bummer
And because CAN is “expensive”, we also have LIN
And because they’re both kinda slow, sometimes new cars have Ethernet (but bad ethernet. 2 wires only, usually)

it doesn’t ship with grapheneOS, it just has support for it. I imagine the stock android it ships with will be riddled, though
