I’ve been using IPv6 for more than 20 years, and I can’t say that about nuclear fusion.

Android@lemdro.id•Google's working on a great Android feature to save you from 'storage full' strugglesEnglish
3·9 days agoOnly if you buy the right model though. I don’t think mine supports it, but since it has about five times the storage I actually use I don’t care about it at all. I do have a 1TB MicroSD card in my Steam Deck though, can’t have enough storage for games!

1·9 days agoAh, right. I can see how that would lead to much more usage. Any serious videographer probably has a vastly different storage usage than the average phone user does, with plenty of external storage too.

1·9 days agoInteresting. I’ve had my phone for over 2 years now and I’m only up to 91 GB used. There’s multiple offline maps in there, a separate Linux install, over a hundred apps, some cached music and lots of photos and video, but I still wouldn’t know how to fill it up further.

11·9 days agoDo people still run out of storage on Android phones? With how large phone storage has become and how most stuff lives in the cloud anyway these days I honestly can’t remember the last time it was an issue for me.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Name some default Firefox settings you think don't make sense.English
2·14 days agoOf course! Having it configurable is much better than not having it at all. In the really old days you needed an add-on for it in Firefox too, but luckily it’s been an option for ages now.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Name some default Firefox settings you think don't make sense.English
2·14 days agoYou can also use Ctrl-1 to 8 if you don’t have a lot of tabs open, that does work with the left hand. Point is, there are tons of ways to switch to next/previous tabs, both with the keyboard and with the mouse, but the only way to switch to the last used tab is disabled by default. Even though it’s much more intuitive IMHO because it aligns with the way most OSes switch between applications. I frequently switch between a few tabs and a few apps, so I use both Ctrl-Tab and Alt-Tab a lot on multiple OSes. If this had been the default from the start I believe everyone would just be used to it and find it logical.

2·14 days agoIt works just like Alt-Tab though. Are you sure it’s not just a getting used to it thing? Besides, you still have Ctrl-PgDn for next tab.

Guild Wars 2. Didn’t click with it at launch, tried it again a few months ago and oh my god so much has changed in over 13 years. I’m still playing plenty of other games but it’s nice to have an MMO (without monthly fees or any kind of FOMO) to come back to every couple of weeks.

Linux@programming.dev•Inside the Systemd Age Verification Debate: Developer Responds to CriticismEnglish
102·26 days agoThat’s a rather negative view. There’s a big difference between people who actually contribute to FOSS (in any way, not just code) and random keyboard warriors in the contents. Sure, there’s always some drama somewhere, but that’s not exclusive to FOSS.

Android@lemdro.id•Samsung is giving all of Android a bad rep with its terrible keyboardEnglish
71·1 month agoIf you’re using a default keyboard on almost any mobile device you’re only hurting yourself. The Google one is annoyingly good, but every other keyboard I’ve encountered from mobile manufacturers (including Apple) is just terrible.
OK I absolutely hate this meme format but I’m gonna make an exception for this one, since I too am a victim of PPPoE even for gigabit fiber.

Linux@programming.dev•Bcachefs creator claims his custom LLM is 'fully conscious'English
39·2 months agoIs he really that talented a programmer though? He’s made a good number of claims that his creations are far superior to everything else that exists, and plenty of people have fallen for those claims, but in the case of bcachefs I’ve seen very little to actually prove him right.

Linux@programming.dev•Is Ubuntu Treating Its Users as If They Can’t Be Trusted?English
7·2 months agoWell Mint is based on Ubuntu (unless you get the Debian Edition) and Ubuntu is based on Debian sooo…
Basically the majority of Linux distros are based on either Debian, Fedora or Arch. IMHO it’s usually best to go with one of the originals, not the derivatives. Although I will admit Ubuntu has made Debian a lot better over the years, but that’s only because they took the bits from Ubuntu that actually made sense and ignored the rest.

Gaming@beehaw.org•What games similar to hardspace shipbreaker can you recommend?English
5·3 months agoWhile I agree with most of the games in this list that I know, I wouldn’t class Ostranauts as a cleaning game. It’s probably closest to Shipbreaker, at least thematically. You loot derelict spaceships, but can also deconstruct hulls and systems to add them to your own spaceship. Finding a hull with serviceable fusion engine parts is hitting the jackpot, either to sell or for your own ship. While it shares the “I’m in debt for the rest of my life” vibe it’s much easier to climb out of that hole once you understand the game.

Only on games sold through Steam itself. Unlike any other store out there they don’t charge for keys sold somewhere else, so in practice that 30% is significantly lower if you put in any effort to sell your games elsewhere too. This is why publishers like Paradox have their own store and heavily promote it, they just sell Steam keys there without having to pay the 30%.
