Depends. A basically old wood fire? No. But here is other nasty stuff that does not ‘burn’ as we think of it but still produces enormous heat in exothermic reactions that do not need oxygen to sustain themselves.
If you plan to securely store such material look at appropriate chemical supply storage, not safes.
Yea but if you worry about CPU bugs there is no such thing as trust, no matter who owns the infrastructure. Any software can have critical bugs and any system that can be accessed remotely can be compromised. Personally I’d trust the people at Signal that they have made a reasonable architecture section to balance availability and privacy
Yes and the other kid was just a spinless little asshole who needed to learn that irl actions have consequences.
From how the rest of the interaction went I’m afraid that’s the opposite of what he learned after the police intervened
The Canadian prosecution and courts absolutely need to squash this. Sub-state actors goin on random adventures like this causes war down the line - in fact we had a 30 Years’ war about that.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Swiss messaging service Threema is being acquired by German investment company Comitis Capital
1·3 months agoDepends. Signal is the strongest competitor within that niche, but overall both will only grow if they capture marker share from WhatsApp; which is perfectly feasible as they are in principle perfectly viable substitute products and it’s mostly the monopolistic pressures of WhatsApp’s preexisting user base. In my personal experiences, Signal, Threema, Matrix, etc. see use within relatively closed bubbles (i.e. I moved my family over to signal, or a work project team uses Element for Matrix, etc.). But more and more people you run into in Germany already have a second messenger that is not owned by Meta in their phone and I would hence expect that WhatsApp’s market share will drop over the next few years. Signal imo has the lead here as it works with phone numbers too, so you don’t need to know someone else’s handle

1·3 months agoYes but those things are being worked on including meta data encryption.
Also, strictly speaking you can migrate accounts, it’s just a little cumbersome and needs either some manual effort or separate tooling. I agree though that it should be considerably easier.

2·3 months agoAny number of Matrix-based messengers fulfill most of those criteria; meta data reduction could be better but we’re getting there.
Also Signal is very decent alternative if you want a WhatsApp-like UX from a trustworthy source.
This reporting seems quite one-sided.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump Says Maduro Captured After US Airstrikes Hit VenezuelaEnglish
0·4 months agoLet’s appreciate what this means for the global order.
Russia has proactively attacked Ukraine. Now the US has attacked Venezuela. If China ever needed a permissive international environment to attack Taiwan, this attack was a major step in this direction.
We are quickly sliding back to a world of great powers, where might makes right and hence smaller countries will be bullied into submission without any concerted opposition by what remains of the ‘international community’.
If the US gets away with this, the same is going to happen to Panama in the not too distant futute and to Greenland soon after.
Unless Russia is burned out after the Uktain war, they might try their hand at the Baltics.
Should Russia collapse, China might integrate some of the Siberian regions.
And so on.
I wonder how this all will end.
Kids, remember: The cornerstone of any healthcare system is YOU CARING ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. Don’t fuck around with your health.
If you do stupid shit for fun, make at least sure it kills you and doesn’t leave you with lifelong disability.

8·8 months agoWeird. As the article says, here in Germany they are seemingly appearing out of thin air wherever you look. I still remember how my parents were among the first to have solar panels 20 years ago, now when I look down on my village form the nearby hill there are panels on at wlst half the roofs and balconies

1·9 months agoWhat the others said. If you want a practical example of this working, have a look at eduroam. It’s the joint WiFi of all European universities and I cannot recall that there ever were any privacy issues.

The healthcare costs are collectively borne by the public, no matter where you smoke. And indirect damage for kids and others in the same household should also not be underestimated.
