Youtube-dl to download things in flac format from youtube (and sometimes rarely other sites when what i want isn’t on youtube, which is rare because people upload everything under the sun). I haven’t the need for anything more complicated.
After everyone has gone to sleep before the sun rises. Finally i get to do what i actually intend on doing without having to work around/explain it to others because my goals and intentions are so alien to society that trying to explain what the fuck am i trying to do and how the fuck do i intend to achieve it would only leave them more confused and concerned

The Swarm by Frank Schätzing. Modern sci-fi. Sea creatures rise up and begin taking vengeance against humans, guided by some mysterious force. Very interesting and well written, but i haven’t seen it mentioned here.
Nearly all video games, and by extension where i get them - Steam. Open source gaming is simply not an option. One can - and i do - stay away from the big annoying AAA companies most of which of just subsidiaries of yet bigger annoyinger tech companies, and Valve is actually pretty decent about open source, but one cannot simply game without proprietary software.
Discord and WhatsApp. Literally everyone i know uses one of them.
For me at least i have no problems with the UI, functionality, etc, of these apps’ foss equivalents but the main problem is the userbase. You cannot have a messaging app with no people to talk with and you cannot and a game store with no games to play. You can have the best design and software ever but that won’t do shit without the established legacy and publicity of a big company.

While yes they are not technically renewable i think nuclear power is a much more realistic solution for energy problems as true renewables don’t make nearly enough to power a country and what waste nuclear power does produce is comically little in comparison to the energy it makes. I don’t get why people are so against it.

I was born too late to experience most of these, but i am currently playing through Half-Life 1 which is from 1998 and i’m greatly enjoying it. I tried to emulate some of the Zeldas from this time but got confused and quit. Maybe i’ll try again.

I’ve always dreamed of being the last human on earth. There are signs of civilization yet it is all overgrown and in the process of being taken in by nature. The climate and ecosystem has rebalanced itself from what man did. There’s no else to annoy or judge me, and i can do whatever i please without caring for how i am perceived. I can finally be my true self. Eventually i, too, die, and nature simply forgets as mankind’s influence fades.
The entire idea of “knowing” a language is a complete mess. When do you know that you know? There are only two languages i can confidently say i am fluent in yet i know bits and pieces of random other languages, sometimes enough to follow simple conversation, and i taught myself to read some foreign scripts for fun despite not knowing the language(s) they are used to write.
Coldest was -20° last winter, hottest was 40° (Celsius). I’m not sure about either of these as i didn’t have a thermometer on hand in either situation

I actually remember a good amount of my dreams, and i try to write them all down as soon as i wake up in as much detail as i can. One interesting thing that happened because i made this a habit is that i was dreaming one time, and then i woke up and went to write down said dream on my computer then i saw that my keyboard was set to another language so i was typing nonsense, which made me realize this was another dream which contained the first one, which made me wake up for real, or at least i hope for real. For all i know this could also be a dream…

The section about prespaceflight rituals in that article was hilarious. Funny that considering all the technological advances that had to happen to get humanity to where space travel is even a thing humans still have their silly rituals. Never change, humankind, never change.

To be honest? The reddit thing was what reminded me lemmy existed. I signed up around a year before, got bored of it for whatever reason and went back to reddit. Then the thing happened, someone mentioned lemmy, and i thought to myself “oh wait lemmy exists.” And now i’m here.
Same here. I was also predominantly a lurker on reddit, as even when i wanted to comment something it did not feel safe, for lack of better word. Here i feel much more free to comment my mind. I hope it stays that way. For someone who was too young to experience the “old internet” it feels great to have a new and improved modern analog.
I don’t know man, i’m quite new to this. Is there anywhere better to get music that i can freely download (i like having it as files on my system)?
