The key is to think of it as a 25k car, not a 16k one. That’s what you’ll spend on it to make it a reliable car that isn’t a ticking time bomb.
Compare it to other cars that might interest you that also cost around 25k, and you’ll have your answer.
I wouldn’t mind it, if I had the money set aside to do all the maintenance, and do a manual transmission swap because the SMG almost ruins the driving experience.
Budget for conrod bearings, do it straight away. Keep a couple grand aside for other potential (but not catastrophic) issues like throttle actuators, and normal age related failures as with any other E series car.
Turn off the fuel consumption reading from the dash as soon as you get it, and don’t ever look at it again.
