I’m sure they will carry on the world hegemon tradition of being generally contemptible.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Myanmar is now one of world's top producer of opium post-Afghanistan decline. Despite myanmar having direct borders with China and India , I can't find any drug crises there unlike fentanyl in US?English
51·2 days agoI wonder if doctors in China/India have more scruples about prescribing opiates. Here in the U.S. they give them to you for just about any amount of pain, weather you asked for them or not. They have given me opiates after I specifically told them I won’t take them because of the side effects. The treatment of pain here in the U.S. is stuck in the 1950s.
Nah mang, when I’m tired I sleep, productivity be damned. Nothing better than being well rested.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Possibility of translating the messages of dogs, cats, and other petsEnglish
8·2 days agoFrankly if you cant understand your dog yourself, an app probably wont help. They don’t talk but they are excellent communicators if you understand how to listen to them. This is especially true for dogs and cats but all animals have body language. Birds are special because they have very specific calls per species that you can learn to recognize, but they are so consistent that apps work too.

That sign can’t stop me because I can’t read!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•According to an MIT study, relying on ChatGPT for stuff like essays and creativity leads to cognitive atrophy and such. What should I do when writing stories without ChatGPT and other AI chatbots?English
3·8 days agoThe whole point of writing is that im engaging internally with the process. Words are just words if Im not writing or reading them, completely vapid and inane. Anybody with half a brain who reads can tell writing from output. It has no soul because none was lent it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is an old movie that couldn't be made today?English
2·8 days agoAny of the stunts Buster Keaton pulled.
There is balance in all things. Making fun of the English and Americans is equally as funny. So’s the dutch and the Portuguese and the Spanish. If at any point your country was an empire, making fun of its people is open game.
Man you didn’t even see it, we both went up and down before I lost. It was very dramatic. Still I maintain that making fun of the french is easy laughs.
You have to be more stubborn than the dog. You have to be fair. It takes a lot of time. You have to understand your dog if you want them to understand you. Most people have poorly trained dogs because they haven’t put the time and effort in to build a real connection, a well trained dog looks like telepathy.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Maybe the fr*nch aren't so bad after allEnglish
2422·13 days agoIt’s extremely funny.
Seems like the logical conclusion would be then that people who train LLMs should be responsible for curating the data, not expecting that the data will just be sound. People have been lying on the internet since it was invented, the advent of LLMs isn’t suddenly going to create an internet that doesn’t occur in.

Linux@programming.dev•GabeN Is Shitting Yacht Money into Flatpak and You're Still Arguing Init SystemsEnglish
3·18 days agoI’m still new here and to Linux and the whole age verification thing read to me as over-reactionary internet behavior you find all over reddit. No real underlying reason to make such a fuss other than to virtue signal to other linux users how security minded you are. Just makes the whole community look ridiculous.
Unless you live near a pole in which case this is just half the year
Every year that goes by I get closer to going to bad at 9pm. Something about being an adult and not needing the night to flee my responsibilities. That can be done in broad daylight now.
Yeah if it is a work laptop then your caution is warranted. The thing about linux is, eventually something will go wrong. However, with the slightest inclination and some internet searching skills you can always fix the issue. Windows and Mac like to fight you when you want to tinker with something, but Linux facilitates it.
Putting linux on that thing will give it several more years. The performance gap between windows and linux just keeps growing.

There was still a comment on the bottom trying to cite the 73% number back to the author lol.
