Don’t forget Germany. Seems like the only lesson their politicians learnt from WW2 was “don’t ever criticise Israel.”

These Republicans are literally evil and it baffles me and fills me with despair that people just don’t see it. They want to fuck and marry children, and send them to work in the mines, on school nights. They dismantle environmental protections and human rights with glee. They want to privatise everything and make everyone beholden to billionaires that make more in an hour than others will in a lifetime. They force brain dead mothers to incubate babies and healthy mothers to incubate brain dead babies.
They are undeniably evil fucking scum. But they’ve got everyone convinced that the drag queen reading children’s books in a public library is the thing destroying society. And to me, the worst part of all is that none of these things are a secret. They don’t campaign for child marriage in secret, they don’t force women to go through absolute horror behind closed doors. This is all openly done and known. So what does that say about the many many people that act like they’re their saviours?
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a community dedicated for serious discussion?English21·5 hours agoit would likely result in a large number of the currently active users here getting themselves banned from it
Absolutely. People here can’t even help themselves when it comes to going into a community literally called “Reddit” to shit on people for talking about Reddit. Or going into a community called “WitchesvsPatriarchy” to not all men any conversation about the patriarchy.
You can bet your ass that any community like one that you’re talking about would be flooded by smartass replies and jokes at first. And the moment moderators start banning people, they’ll be crying about their ‘free speech’.
That’s totally fair. Not everything has to be an excuse to get drunk or stoned or whatever. Just being in good company, eating good snacks and hanging out can be enough.
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto Rant@lemmy.sdf.org•Religion does not belong to a DemocracyEnglish81·8 hours agoI’d love to be more tolerant but religious people just can’t help themselves but prove to everyone time and time again that they cannot be trusted in positions of power without swinging their dogma around like a dick. I was born into a country run by christian nationalists that used the bible to justify their apartheid. And in every step of my life since, christians are always the nastiest, most authoritarian, most closed minded and racist and patriarchal people that I’ve known. Whether it’s teachers in school or farmers that treat their workers like animals. And now look at what they’re doing to the USA.
As someone that generally prefers believing in reality to fairy tales, reality has taught me over and over that religious people are the enemy of a multicultural society where everyone is supposed to get along and respect each other.
Sometimes it feels like that with social media and related platforms. Both Zoom and TikTok seemed to go from something I’d never of to things that everyone was talking about overnight. In Zoom’s case, it definitely seemed like guerrilla viral advertising. Like when everyone was talking about Stanley™ cups for a while, not flasks or water bottles but Stanley™ cups.
Lmao fine! It’s annoying but I get it. If we’re having a picnic, everyone must be comfortable and happy. So let’s do it this way, anyone that wants to meet up for a smoke session before the picnic is welcome to join me and if you me slipping away from the crowd your few moments, you know what’s up. But I’m actually fine with keeping the picnic itself PG for the sake of all ages and cultures.
Oof, in that case I guess I’ll have to go with a legal and socially acceptable drug that’s actually worse for you. Wine it is! I prefer dry red myself but I’m open to whatever lol
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit is ass. "Account too new"/"Not enough karma" 🤡English41·9 hours agoIf you want to quickly and easily get past karma limits, just spend a day in AskReddit, answering posts in the ‘rising’ sort. Eventually one of those posts will take off and just because you answered early enough, you’ll get hundreds or even thousands of upvotes. It’s usually more about timing than quality there.

Character_Locked@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you keep your phone in your right or your left pocket?English11·9 hours agoLeft pocket if I’ve got it in my pockets. These days I usually use a smol little backpack to put all of my things into and hate having crap in my pockets.
I’ll bring the weed! Edibles so that no one has to inhale smoke if they don’t want to. Also, what this day needs is lying back and looking for shapes and pictures in the clouds. Haven’t done that since childhood.
As a lowly end user that just wants an online space to park in, I’m putting my trust in a platform run by strangers who I don’t know that could have all sorts of agendas, whether I’m signing up on a decentralised or centralised platform.
I know that this opinion is always going to be controversial around here because people here are very excited about and into the whole concept behind the Fediverse. But as someone that just wants a place to shit post, laugh at funny things and connect with people, it’s 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. The experience for me is the same because I’m not trying to run a server or anything.
I could be on Bluesky happily posting and then they turn bad and start removing posts for political reasons. Or I could be signed up on Feddit.org happily posting and then they turn bad and start removing posts for political reasons. In both of those cases, my only option as an end user is to abandon ship and years worth of posts and comments and go somewhere else.
I don’t personally know any admins around here. And they can talk about their ideals just like Mark Zuckerberg can talk about his. And all I can do is blindly trust that they’re on the level and aren’t going to take their masks off at a later stage. So as an end user, it really makes no difference.
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto Entertainment@beehaw.org•‘Sesame Street’ Saved, Inks New Streaming Deal With NetflixEnglish5·22 hours agoSo does that mean it gets one more season before Netflix cancels it?
This doctor outrage was easily one of the top dumbest fucking things to ever come out of the USA. And of course it was all the right wing conservative people lmao. It’s just one thing after the other with these people. If they’re not angry that kids are learning Arabic numerals in school, they’re busy choosing 1/4 pounder burgers over 1/3 pounder burgers. But the doctor thing is definitely one for the hall of fame.
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Which distribution should I recommend to beginners to scare them?English71·1 day agoI honestly don’t think Arch is that bad or complicated. It’s just that you have to go into it knowing that you’re in for some reading, tinkering and following step by step instructions along the way. I’d start with something like Mint or Ubuntu for a first look for sure. But once you’re ready to learn a bit more about how the Linux system works and is put together, Arch would straight up be my first recommendation. Even if it’s something you play with on the side in a virtual machine, for me at least, starting on Arch was when my Linux experience went from clicking at things and copy pasting commands into the terminal to still copying and pasting commands lol, but actually learning why and how and what too.
2 or 17. Sometimes (rarely) 20.
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a good instance that basically has no sign up duration and access to basically any instance?English22·1 day agoI feel like they’ve probably all got pros and cons and probably require a little research. I recently signed up here on lemm.ee and the sign up process seemed pretty quick and simple. And they seem to do minimal de-federating. But the flip side to that is you can’t upload any images for your first 4 weeks on the server. 4 fkn weeks.
And if I’d read that first, I might have reconsidered joining here. I think I’d rather be inconvenienced by sightly more in depth questions and a 1 day wait time for signing up than a 4 fkn week wait before I can even upload a profile pic and banner image.
Edit: in fact I’m gonna go as far as saying that it’s false advertising. They advertise as general purpose instance but seemingly can’t even handle a thing that about 50% if this type of social media entails. They should change their blurb on join-lemmy to “We would like to be a general purpose reddit-like instance but our servers catch on fire every time someone uploads a meme, so we should actually be doing something smaller scale instead of pretending that we can hang with lemmy.world”.
Character_Locked@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your desert island video games?English3·2 days ago- Stardew Valley
- Skyrim
- ADOM
- Burnout Paradise
- Vegas Solitaire (or I think a decent Solitaire collection is a fair exception to that one rule because you can get many games out of a pack of cards)
Stardew Valley, Skyrim and ADOM for games that you can keep going back to over years and playing in different ways and still discovering new things. Vegas Solitaire for more of a mindless time passer when you don’t want something immersive and involved. Burnout Paradise for something in between complex and mindless and something different once in a while.
Edit: I hope I eventually get rescued though because there’s a LOT of shorter titles that I’d miss.
