Nice project, couldn’t see me using it myself as I’m not sure why I’d want my VPN to randomly change every 24hrs say? You say the router is a spof, but that’s still going to be the case here isn’t it?
I run all my nerves on Debian and also a WD Nas. But, I did once run a windows 10 desktop for a few years and used it as a file server with zero issue. 24/7 access wasn’t needed so any reboots in the night we’re fine. I wouldn’t do it again, I only did it because I had the desktop with lots of drives in and I was too lazy to reinstall it lol But if I was to do it again I’d reinstall it and use truenas or Openmedia vault
About 50 watts. I downsized a few years ago, got rid of the unnecessary larger servers, moved to Intel nucs and a 4 disk nas for centralized storage. Was no need to run large servers at home, I play with them at work.
I run proxmox on the nucs with my servers in vms, each nuc has 16gb of ram and performance is fine
Enjoy. I would say with a home lab, try and plan things, what is it you want to host, what is the best hosting platform, vm, lxc, physical install etc etc. I say this because it should help stop the ‘splatter’ effect somewhat where you end up with all sorts of systems and installs all over the place. So I treat mine a bit like a work environment . Oh,.and don’t forget backups !
Nah, I can’t think of hardly any reasons why I’d want to, so many things to consider. Just not worth my time
