Driving in manual mode atleast on my 2013 328i put it in sport mode. If it puts it in sport it’s more strain on the engine reguardless because the turbo is staying spooled to be more responsive. If your shifting at normal rpm’s like 3k or so then it shouldn’t matter to much but it mainly depends on how you drive.
