It’s been a fun four years since I last had to have these around the house…but alas it’s time to bring the potty out once more.

Hopefully he takes to it as well as his sister. I am not confident.

    My wife was determined not to have to clean and maintain a potty for our two, so we avoided it entirely by using a set of foldaway steps that sits on the toilet rim. I don’t know what the etiquette is for posting product links but a search for “toilet steps” will show you what I’m talking about. Highly recommend.

      Oh these are great and we have a set with a cushioned seat for winter. Sometimes I’d like a set in adult size…

    The power of example cannot be denied. A friend of mine once has his son walk in on him on the toilet, so he showed the boy how he does it. From that point on there were no issues.

    Mine wasn’t so easy. You never know your luck.

      Is anyone allowing them to poop on the toilet?

      I barely let them get used to peeing in it before I transitioned to the big toilet.

      They make toilet seats with 3 parts now. Lid, Regular Seat, Little seat that sits on top of regular seat.

        Our one also had a step to help getting on, and avoid dangling feet. My daughter much preferred it to the potty.

      We did the naked method over a long weekend. Essentially, they don’t have anything on below, and you are giving them plenty of liquids. The goal is to get them to recognize when they are going to the bathroom. Put towels everywhere.the florr will be peed on. Every time you go to the BR, ask if they would like to join you.

      Day 1: There was a lot of pee around the house in the morning. Cameled it in the afternoon until we put on an overnight diaper.

      Day 2: a few accidents around the house not as much as day 1. We were regretting trying till about 5pm when I announced I had to pee. He came with me and peed. The rest of the evening he would come with mom or dad to the bathroom when asked and try. Overnight diaper was dry the next day.

      Day 3: We put underwear and pants on him. Had a few minor drips, but he seemed to have gotten it.

      The biggest challenge was Day Care. He was the 1st in his class to be potty trained. The first few weeks he was having lots of accidents. We figured out the reason fast. They’d line up everyone to go play outside and then say tell our boy he had to go potty first.he didn’t want to miss out so he wouldn’t go and then have an accident while playing. That was our experience.

          It was. Naps, now we don’t use a pull-up. Overnight, we put on a sleeping pull-up. It’s wet, maybe once or twice a week.

          We knew he was ready bc e like to follow us into the BR and flush. The hardest part was sitting down for each pee.

        How do you know when the kid is ready for this? We tried with ours when she was 22-23 months, and she was very distressed at the whole thing, we decided to lay off until she was less spooked by the potty. But lately she has been showing interest again - what’s the telltale sign to try this method again?

          We did this at 2yr-1wk. He was always coming to the BR with us. Enjoyed flushing the toilet. He wanted to wipe us. Those were the signs we had. We had to be persistent in making sure we included him on all our “business”

      My son didn’t want to use a potty at all. No matter what. He would occasionally use the toilet, but didn’t like that either. He was too comfortable in nappies I think.

      Then one day he just decided that’s it and started using the toilet. He was about 3.5, which I think is quite late, I’m not sure. But there was no way he was doing it before then, he just knew when he was ready. He was out of nappies at night about 4.5.

      My daughter is now 2 and will try using the toilet standing up after watching her brother 🤣 she at least wants to ditch nappies, but she’s not quite getting there.

      We did it a little different, we had a talk about not wearing a diaper anymore, we knew, that both of our kids knew when they had to go, it was just easier to use the diaper. We tried that sitting on it and getting used to it, but what worked the best for.both our kids was to take off the diaper, when we where home, we had some accidents along the way but they learned that pee and poop is not the nicest thing to outside the diaper

      I don’t think mine is totally ready right now, but I remember with my elder that there was a pretty big window between when she was ready and when she was willing to sit on the thing.

      So the plan here is to let him get used to it being around the home, let him sit on it and interact with it and then when he’s ready to start dropping his trousers… hopefully the transition will be a bit quicker than with my daughter.
