I don’t think the sanctions affected Huawei’s sells in China that much. Probably they even improved after they introduced HarmonyOS. I guess that “Huawei was dead” was just some good old American propaganda

It’s dead everywhere else because they can’t use Google Play Services.

Anyway, I don’t think the goal of US actions is ever to stop or kill anything completely. After all there’s money to be made in the “problem” coming back again and again.

I think this is an important point people who mock the US don’t get.

China will collapse and Japan will be the worlds largest economy.

Although finally maybe potentially China will decline within the next few decades simply due to population reduction.

It didn’t and they make good phones, but without access official access to Google play, you loose a lot of things ,especially with more casual users that don’t want to sideload. Also, some apps won’t work without the play integrity api, for example banking apps, making it harder to gain traction outside China.

I’m a big fan of Huawei products. Incredible build quality and reasonable prices. I personally don’t care if the CCP spies on me so it’s not a big issue for me.

Nah, you aren’t dumb. I think the opinion is dumb, but I’m sure you have reasons for believing the way you do. I suspect it comes from a sense of hopelessness and feeling a lack of control which I can empathize with but do not share. I simply don’t like to see people roll over and give in to such thought because of the types of awful people who have power in this world. This mindset is submissive to those powers and that irks me to anger. That submission boosts the power they already hold. But no, I hold no negative opinions toward you as a person and I apologize if it came across that way, that’s likely my fault.

It’s not that I’ve given in, I just simply do not care. But I respect the right to a users privacy and will happily fight to get that right for people. I personally just do not care however. I don’t really know why, It’s just not something that bothers me

And the frustrating thing is that there aren’t many alternatives for phones. Alternative Android ROMs have limited compatibility, and some manufacturers (esp. Lenovo/Motorola) like to play games with revoking warranties when using alternative ROMs.

My next phone is going to be a Pixel, not because I like Google or the phone itself, but because GrapheneOS works on it. I just want a simple smartphone, I don’t even care about the camera or other features, I just need a browser and a handful of basic apps.

I wish the Pinephone had better battery life, I’d totally use it.

Me too. The D15 is great laptop and runs Linux really well. Fantastic build quality, hardware, and battery life… for USD 700$.

Besides, I get lonely if only the Americans are listening.
