Long story short, my boss has some business trip planned for our department coming up soon and I don’t want to go.
No, we’re not taking a plane to some exotic destination. We’re literally driving our cars or taking a coach or something else for half the day and just staying (probably 2 people per room with their own beds) in a hotel room.
We’re not being paid extra, just our normal salary for however many days we’re there, although they’ll cover the costs for gas/food/hotel, though it’ll take me close to 5 hours to get there!
I just don’t want to go though. Not because of the actual work, I actually want to do what they have planned, I just don’t like doing things outside of my normal routine/schedule. And I know how this will end up too. We’ll spend half the day to get over there, work for a bit, but most of the time will end up being spent at a bar or club until late at night, then wake up and work for a bit, go to another bar and club until late, wake up, then spend half the day going back home.
So how do I tell them I don’t want to go? I know they’ll be mad since everyone else is loving it (who wouldn’t like their boss paying for drinks and dances all night while going on a company trip?), but that’s not me.
Edit-To be clear, it’s not a team bonding activity or a “retreat”. It’s basically just like a tour of a company’s hq that we’re briefly working with on one small thing, which is why I said I know 90% of this trip won’t be actual work since all that doesn’t take a few days. And we’re not salaried, we get paid by the hour, 8 hours a day and that’s it.
