yeah I really despise meta, but feel kinda ambivalent about full-scale preemptive defederation of their crap, mostly because it doesn’t seem impossible that some users might decide to ditch it for independent servers after interacting a bit. this seems more likely if they can ease the transition by still interacting with their old pals on meta (presumably without suffering the ad & algo garbage).
possibly i am not thinking through the threat model adequately, but imho a “meet them where they’re at” approach doesn’t seem entirely devoid of potential here.
