Getting a ridiculous amount of avo’s on the tree this year. In a rental so i’m not knowledgable about this. What’s a good way to make the most of the season? Theyre staying green on the tree, and taking 1-2 weeks to ripen once picked atm. How long will they stay like this? I presume they start dropping off eventually, is that likely to happen all at once? Do they freeze well?

I couldn’t find a good link online explaining this, but I’ve had a lot of luck keeping avocados in the refrigerator.

The trick is to let them ripen on their own until they’re about good enough to use. If you put them in the fridge, they can keep about 1-2 weeks there at the same ripeness before they start to get softer or ripen further. That’s contra leaving them on the counter, where they’d be ripe enough to eat for a few days.

Yeah they really last a long time in the fridge. I second this. Man I wish I had a too much avocado problem. 😛

You can use this trick in reverse when you have a lot of avos also.

Put them all in the fridge except for the ones you want ripened and stagger them out of fridge so they don’t all ripen at once. Once they’re ripened, you can move them back in to prevent over-ripening but staggering them out means you should be eating them consistently as you go.

they are not going to ripen on the tree. you have to pick them up and keep them for a week for them to be ready. Keeping them in the fridge will slow the ripening process. So if you have too many avocado ready at once you can put them in the fridge for a few days.

I hope you also have a lime tree nearby because you’ll need it with an these avocados.

To my knowledge there is not much you can do to preserve them, the only thing to do is to eat then fresh and to give all the extra to your friends and neighbors.

The only way to preserve avocado for a bit longer would be avocado oil but it’s a long process to make it at home.
