This is fine.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange how would that even work?
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange SWATting by fire department (lots of trucks looking for smoke/fire; might spray you unnecessarily) is a very different thing that actual SWATting (attempting to get an armed, tactical response from the local SWAT team or equivalent; might murder you before they realize the truth) and I’d love, love, LOVE if one person who posted or commented about this would acknowledge that.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Is Joe okay? That’s scary.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange it sounds annoying but are false fire calls now swatting? Does your fire department show up with M4 rifles and tactical gear?
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange someone is definitely going to jail for that!
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange It’s almost as though running the police force as a “dial-a-murderer” scheme was a terrible idea. /sarcasm
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange things are going great in 2024 where swatting is still a thing.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange
I haven’t heard of severe consequences for abusing SWAT for these things. There really should be.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Maybe this will finally prompt a fix to the shitty systems that allow for number spoofing.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange They responded? Did the Secret Service call for assistance? Maybe contact the Secret Service first before sending out responders.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange And just think, you were in before it was cool.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Sending firefighters seems to be the mildest form of swatting. No guns drawn etc.

Doesn’t say much for the authorities in DC 😂
