I remember hearing about an APC where they were experimenting putting diesel in the hull as extra armor to reduce weight. The base idea works pretty damn well, until you realize the vehicle is going to go up in flames anytime it is shot with something more than a rifle.
Using water is a waste of space and weight.
Tanks are thirsty boys, so we use diesel fuel instead. Same ballistic benefit and drastically increased range.

diesel is nonflammable under normal atmospheric pressure
Too bad high explosives create nonatmospheric pressures?
