I’m reading Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology book. I like Norse mythology in general, but he does a really good job of looking at it from a storyteller perspective.
Finished Kitchen Confidential as a finally picked up a copy.Still a classic.
Reading “Mort” by Terry Pratchett and listening to “And Another Thing” by Eoin Colfer.
I just finished Matrix by Lauren Groff. This is only the 2nd book of hers I have read, but something about her writing I like so much I just devour it- I read this in two days. The Matrix is set during the 1100s in England. An illegitimate daughter of the king is sent to be prioress of a failing abbey and she turns it into a sort of women’s utopia. Now I’m working on The Great Transition by Nick Fuller Goggins. It’s been marketed as a suspenseful climate change thriller but so far it hasn’t been very fast paced. Perhaps it’s because I’m visiting family and they keep distracting me. I am enjoying it tho!
I’m re-reading the Inheritance Cyle (the Eragon books). Paolini just published Book 5, Murtagh, so I need to refresh my memory on what happened in Books 1-4. It’s been awhile.
I didn’t realize Murtagh was released, thanks!
Started “Science of Disc world vol 1” yesterday. Got halfway through it before putting it aside. Up to where I read it would have been more accurately labelled as "Science of roundworld with some occasional Discworld asides.
If you have limited exposure to science generally and physics in particular then definitely worth a read, but given all the science lectures in it were stuff I was familiar with I got quickly bored.
Excellent roundworld basic science primer but up to chapter 7 not enough Discworld 4/10
So I grabbed " Mort" (Pratchett’s 4th book, and the one where he starts to settle into it) and reread that. As always a solid, entertaining read. 7/10
Not sure what to read today, I have some good non fiction waiting for me, but I’m sick & bed ridden so not sure tge brain will work well enough. Another pratchett ? Reread Douglas Adams ? Not sure
Half-way through “I’m a strange loop” by Douglas Hofstadter. So far it’s very interesting and thought-provoking.
Test Cricket by Jarrod Kimber. Big cricket fan and this is one of the best books i’ve read on cricket
