Are they trying to “Indian give” it? Which was a racist childhood term I’ve almost completely stopped using, but this situation does call for it.
For Native Americans. Colonisers looked at items given in trade as gifts. It’s apt that this is very much not a gift, but it’s the wrong nation for the pun.
