Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a new laptop and was wondering about 2-in-1 laptops.
Are there any issues with buying this type of laptop?
How is the durability of the hinges over a long period of time?
Are there any issues with these I should be aware of?
Thanks!
I have a bunch of 2in1s for my parents and my own needs: MSI 13 Modern; Asus X13 Flow, Asus 2022 X16 Flow, Asus 2023 X16 Flow now.
For the smaller laptops :
Heat issues - small package : going to over heat while gaming, hard to impossible to find a dedicated GPU equipped model.
Battery life - smaller chassis - hard to find large battery capacities
Storage issues - smaller then usual M.2 drives required. The various Lenovo models will need M2.2242 drives which are slightly more common but trying to find a 4TB M.2 2230 drive is impossible or super overpriced.
Soldered RAM issues - The smaller laptops would have soldered RAM on it, if you can live with what issued then good for you but if you were trying to do engineering work forget it or needed to pay much extra for 32GB.
Can’t speak for the long term, but so far I haven’t had any issues with my 2 in 1, thought they do seem to be a bit higher priced compared to non convertible laptops.

you gonna have a hard time finding screen protectors.
Usually you cannot add ram sticks.
Some are really hard to fix, including battery replacement.
Pick a faction (wacom vs mpp) and stick with it.
Used dells can be really good for value.
Some are with tb3, you can play arma3 1080p@30 with a gpu dock on 5290.
Most detachable works bad on you lap.
Some 360 degree 2-in-1s, like x360-15ew, can only be powered on in laptop mode.
Linux drivers can be hits-and-misses. Weird bugs can occur.
They may not make phone calls in windows.
