Hi guys. This is not going to be a long post and I will briefly explain why I didn’t like Lemmy and going straight back to Reddit.

  1. Lemmy is not a likable name.
  2. There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities.
  3. Every app I tried is buggy.
  4. Lemmy world usually experiences connection problems.
  5. Content is not likable enough. I’m reading Reddit to relax, laugh and chill. Lemmy can’t provide that yet. Memes here are generally low effort.

That’s all and thanks anyway! Catch y’all later!

    1. actually that’s a reason??
    2. I barely see them, but what I did see today was several people saying ‘Fuck the CCP’ with a ton of upvotes.
    3. Have you tried the webapps, wefwef/voyager and … mymlm or whatever it’s called? Those are apparently really good. Remember there was no Reddit app until the community built it, and the apps weren’t perfect at the start either, but they did get there. Have fun using the piece of shit official reddit app, since that’s your only option now.
    4. First legitimate reason. It’s a busy instance. Try making an account on a less busy instance. I am connecting through lemmy.nz and I have no problems. It’s easy to copy communities over with Lasim.
    5. Second legitimate reason. Well, half. If you want better content, why don’t you take the initiative and help make Lemmy a better place? This is kind of like ‘everyone else isn’t doing the work for me.’

It amazes me when people think their opinions are so important they feel they have to announce they’re leaving. The insecurity involved must be truly astonishing.

It’s fine when it’s constructive, but when it comes down to “fuck socialists”, “fuck their opinions”, “fuck anything socialists make” and “Lemmy World is glitchy” I’m honestly not sure wtf they expect anyone to do with that information.

" Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities"

You’re making the right choice. Reddit is definitely the right place for you.

It’s hard to take this seriously if you’re talking issue with the word “community”.

Just on the “There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities.”

You really need to learn to tolerate and listen to the views of people you disagree with. Just cutting those voices out entirely and not wanting to hear them really is putting yourself into an echo chamber. You are an individual - don’t fall into the trap of thinking you need to belong to a “group” and agree with all the thoughts in that group and disagree with all the thoughts outside that group. It’s important that you are open to being challenged and hearing other peoples world views, even if yours is ultimately unchanged. Otherwise you’ll just be a sheep thinking how others are directing you to think.

Also, the idea that the word “community” is socialist/communist is the most rediculous thing I’ve read in a while.

I call bs on this. This is just regurgitation of ‘common knowledge’. The creators of the code had tanky beliefs and that has no bearing on the vast majority of the content.

What I find is there’s a lot of privacy hardliners to the point where I’m scared to admit that I like using Chrome as my browser in case I get lynched. But I’ve joined/lurked on a lot of communities (and how is that a communist word?!?) and not so far seen anything turn into a debate about socialism/communism.

    But bye bye.

    One question:

If you do not like it here then why are you here?

Content is decent/ good, certainly it is not as much as Reddit but hey - Lemmy is just getting started. While Reddit has been there for what? 7 years? Longer?

My reddut account was from 2012. 2010 is when digg died and reddit took off more. So, reddit had 13 years to develop its content flow. This person couldn’t stay around 13 weeks to see what Lemmy could be.
