Looking at SF, it’s a shit show and I doubt that hasn’t carried over in to other areas. Many of my friends on the force left for other states because they said crime was increasing faster than they could keep up with it.
I don’t know the answer but it doesn’t pass the sniff test. Murder is a good indicator of total crimes because they are hard not to report.
I mean is it? The problem is the data relies on reports and police stopped taking reports for many crimes.

Murders are only slightly down. Fewer crimes are reported, but I doubt the crime rate is down.
