Browsing through ebay I found this offer:
ECC Registered RAM, 64GB 3200 at about $90 per piece.
A bargain! But the manufacturer is “Memory Bay”… Have you ever heard of that? Any idead whether this might be a bargain or a nightmare?
We had a bunch of machines with “Rambo” RAM sticks in them…
Mem sticks come under many different brand names. All are probably made in the same Korean or Chinese mega factory.
I’ve never heard of them but I’ve bought a lot of random RAM before. If they use proper RAM chips like micron, Kingston, hynix, Samsung, etc then I wouldn’t be too worried.
Is there any “non proper” RAM manufacturer anyways?
All ram packages come from like 4 companies, and memory nearly never fails anyways.
There are only a handful of manufacturers of DDR4 so it’s likely some rebrand of more well known memory, or just the name of the seller.
If you have any concerns about it looks like there are a handful of sellers with regular branded Micro/SK Hynix DDR4 64GB 3200 ECC for about 90-100 as well on eBay.
Links?
registered ECC is dirt cheap because demand is low due to consumer boards scarcely supporting ECC. $90 seems on the low end of reasonable to me, doesn’t ring any alarm bells
