There’s tons of mini that are unreliable. Most of those have PSA engines that’s why.

Mini uses the really reliable BMW B38/B48 engine now and has largely sorted out all of their longstanding QC issues. Part of that is that the Mini Cooper is a comparatively old and established model in the segment it sits in having not been updated since 2014. There also seems to have been a stronger focus in Mini on quality control recently which is boosting their reliability.

It was a very conscious effort on QC when they switched to the current chassis, after all the problems they had with the R56 era. I worked at a MINI store, and while some of these market segment surveys are BS, it’s quite true that MINI is a very reliable vehicle these days. Unfortunately, a lot of people get scared off by all the outdated information around them.

And Audi 10 places below mini… modern Audis basically all use the same platform and both the 2.0t and 3.0t engines are bulletproof. Then you’ve got VW, which uses all the same shit too like 25 points lower. This doesn’t feel very accurate.

Lower volume, “enthusiast” cars, that often don’t see use as daily drivers to the same extent as something cheaper.

F56 Mini’s are actually pretty damn solid and thankfully no longer require you to take the fucking subframe and shit out just to change the rearward front LCA bushings like the R53 >:(

You know how German cares are known for precision engineering, but then they make it way more complex than they need to which leads to reliability issues? Well, at this point Mini is what happens when you keep the engineering, but you cut the complexity to hit a price point.

They’re engines are now BMW engines iirc. Big improvement over the garbage they used to use.

As an owner of a 2011 mini cooper S, seeing mini at number 3 blows my mind. This list is either nonsense or Mini has completely changed.

My 2018 cooper is night and day from the 2012 countryman I used to have. The newer engines are quite solid.

Same, I had a 2012 and currently a 2018 and the build quality jump is really noticeable, especially the longer I’ve had the ‘18.

It’s the latter. Your generation was just a badly engineered vehicle, which, no offense meant as I had a 2012 myself.

No shit, your car is 13 years old and their model lineup has been basically unchanged ever since. Not crazy to think they might have worked out some of the kinks in the intervening decade.

Lol, yeah, everything has been completely redesigned since them. The b48 motor was designed from the ground up by BMW. The N series prince engines were blocks designed by Peugeot, and then done up pretty by bmw. Anything after 16 is gonna have the reliability. 2 door hard tops are reliable back to 2014.
