How generous
This is like the Mr. Beast arguments. Is donating even tho you make money off of it bad? So should we ban anything that does that? Only charitable efforts that don’t make money are now allowed?
Or maybe, sure, there is profit made, but $1M or whatever to help people even if it makes a company money is still helping people that may not have been otherwise? But yeah, fuck people who get their vision restored because… “reasons”.
I mean it’s good they’re doing something but that isn’t even a drop in the bucket for them.
It’s not even a drop in the bucket for Tim Cook to personally do. His net worth fluctuates more than a million dollars a day.
No good deed goes unpunished I guess
They may donate UP TO 0.001% of their 2023 net income wow!
That’s like someone who makes $100,000 a year donating up to $100 or $8.33 a month for a year
Sure, post something that puts the donation into perspective to a bunch of apple fan boys, and piss everyone off, gotcha. I’m not shaming apple, just want the world’s most valuable company to do more.
They get a tax write offbecause it’s not profit. The tax argument is so dumb. They donated $1 million… so they didn’t make that, so they don’t pay tax on the $1 million they didn’t make……
“Such a minuscule amount of money for Apple!!!”
“Heh, I bet they get a really nice tax write off from that miniscule amount of money they donated eh?”
My comment got deleted?
This is 0.001% of their net income for 2023, and they may donate up to $1 million.
That’s like someone who makes $100,000 a year donating $100, or $8.33 a month for a year.
This is a good cause, but is also likely a tax write off for apple. It also incentivizes people to use their products, so an overall gain for them.
The guy who thought of this will get fired. My dude capped the donation of a trillion dollar company at a million bucks
Ya would have been simpler to just donate the $1M, but I guess that’s less interesting from a marketing standpoint.
Countdown to maximum goal probably has more interest.
That’s been the cap for all of their promotions. Their Parks Project donation is capped at 1 million every year that rolls around.
“How dare they only donate $1 million”.
No one’s getting fired lmao.
No one is contesting the million dollar that is definitely good. My point is that the New header sounds much better than the actual plan. They are overselling it and capping it to a low value. therefore it’s (to me) a bad marketing campaign. I’m not talking about the good things being done.
If they didn’t cap it they might actually end up donating money to the charity at the end of the year when they do their tax write offs. All companies keep a low cap to avoid actually donating. That’s why they ask customers to donate instead of just donating themselves because that donation they use to pay off their taxes.
Most companies do this.
“Would you like to round up and donate to Make-a-Wish?”
Always so no. Panda Express has already agreed to pay X amount to them for the year. They simply use rounding up as marketing and a way to offset their donation.
There may not be a dumber take than “it’s only X% of Apple’s revenue/profit”
Maybe your take, right here. This isn’t a take, it’s factual, and puts the donation into perspective.
I wonder if this is for all apple pay purchases or just US ones. Cool regardless though, I almost exclusively use apple pay

These comments are what I expected from Reddit. 1 million dollars cap sucks but it’s still 1 million dollars lol. I wish it was more but it’s still nice, and not something Apple had to do. And no this isn’t “the same as me donating 2 dollars”, because 1 million dollars is gonna help out a lot more than 2 dollars will.
So they will clearly advertise when they hit the $1 million cap and make it clear the promotion is over, if that happens before December 8th, right?
So you expected people to rightly point out that this is an Apple marketing campaign? Apple isn’t being nice. They are using their donation to market themselves and therefore benefitting from it. Also propping up their public image with this press release. Is it good that they’re donating? Sure. But it’s also fair to point out the other elements of what this donation does to benefit the company and also how small it is.
This isn’t the only charity the donate to
So what. There’s nothing wrong with people talking about other aspects of this promotion.
I thought I was going crazy because I’m reading these comments like “it’s only $1 million“ like when did that become a trivial amount of money? Sure. They could give more. But they could also give nothing.
They are a trillion dollar company. I think people fail to comprehend how much a trillion dollars is. This is the equivalent of a millionaire donating 1 dollar. They deserve no praise.
Quick google search showed that Apple has giving to over 39,000 charities since 2011. Never seen the draw of complaining about the good deeds of others.
it just doesn’t need an individual praise post for doing so little even though it’s better than doing nothing.
Why not, just smile and move on. Why would it do anything negative to you to see it?
Maybe we don’t want companies burying the lede and using their charitable donations as a sales tactic? I don’t believe for a second that they aren’t counting on people not knowing that there’s a cap and then just making bank on top of what is effectively a lie after probably just a few hours.
It’s an advertising stunt, with the budget of a relatively small ad campaign given their market cap. A $1M donation is good but we don’t have to just eat the scummy way they’re going about pretending to obtain the money. We are allowed to expect less marketing scumminess and better humanity.
are we getting a product(red) 15 in April? :D
A product Red iPhone 15 Pro would look amazing.
For me it depends on the shade of red. I have a iPhone 8 Plus in red and it looks fantastic. Not a big fan of all the recent shades they’ve done though and if they go pastel…
Or pale salmon 😂 right when I was gonna buy one to support them, apple started making them ugly and not so much red 😂
why dont they donate that twitter money they wasted on ads…
Salty ass comments, as if this isn’t a cause they have been tremendously backing and supporting for almost literally decades…
That’ll earn loads of money for RED to not use to help fight HIV/AIDS.
From the article: “Over 17 years, Apple has raised over a quarter-billion dollars for the Global Fund through (PRODUCT)RED sales”
~$15,000,000 a year over 17 years, pretty to great! Hats off to Apple, their total donation to TGF over 17 years is 0.2% of this year’s net income alone.
The above comment is only for perspective.
