I have a 2013 AWD Toyota RAV4 with about 152k miles on it. My transmission needs an RDI (likely repairs they saw burn oil in my transmission and fails shifting past the 3rd gear and on) estimated around $5,500, financed with the shop at a 0% IR for the first twelve months.

I’m opting to repair because I have a reasonable loan on the car still (roughly 7k) plus I don’t have many other options to open a line of credit besides taking a loan from my retirement.

Am I making the right choice, could my parts be worth more than the estimate?

id look for a 2nd opinion. sometimes you can get by with replacing an outside solenoid or even a solenoid close to transmission filter. ofc dealerships/shady shops will tell you you need a whole ass tranny because there is more money in that than replacing a 200usd solenoid in nearly under an hour. there are ways to test the outside solenoids for electrical resistance and smooth operation.
