Hi all,
I’ve been having a problem with my apple tv for the past few days. Certain apps basically don’t work: Max has audio but no video and when I try to use Disney+ I get an HDCP issue error message. On AppleTV Plus or Hulu every now and then the video will cut out for a few seconds and then the “dolby vision” and “dolby audio” pop-up will appear and everything will go back to normal. Does anyone know how to fix these issues? My google-fu is failing me.
My apple tv is updated to tvOS 17.1 and is plugged directly into a LG B9 tv.
Any physical changes to your entertainment system prior to this issue occurring? New audio system as an example.
Additionally, when did you update to TVOS 17.1? Have you updated the firmware on your LG TV.
No physical changes.
Not sure when the software was updated, I actually tried to look but couldn’t find a log in the menu. Do you know how to find that info?
My tv is not connected to the internet so no firmware updates.
I would recommend connecting your LG TV to the internet for the sole purpose of installing any firmware updates. WiFi would be the easiest probably. Then after you update you can delete the WiFi off the LG.
I have read several articles that elude to HDMI cables/connections or firmware capability can cause the issue you’re having. That said if you have never updated the LG it probably needs to be even if it doesn’t resolve issue.
I update my older Samsung at least every six months.
Damn I was hoping this was the answer but I updated the tv and the issue is still occurring (at least on Disney and Max).
As a result of other resolutions on internet, try these steps:
- Delete Disney app
- Restart Apple TV
- Install Disney app
- Restart Apple TV
- Try it
Restart Apple TV is to ensure any remnants of steps 1 and 3 do not influence step 5.
If this works then do the same for Max.
Wow, that seems to have worked for both of them! Thank you so much for your help!!!
Run the cable test, I know disney+ is the most finicky about handshake issues. If you have a receiver and it supports a cable test, try that too. I found that most hdmi cables from amazon are not what they are labeled.
Go to Settings > Video and Audio and select Check HDMI ConnectionAppreciate the tip but it passed the cable test. My hdmi cable is 2-3 years old but it was bought from monoprice not amazon and is “Ultra Slim Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable, 4K@60Hz, HDR, 18Gbps, 34AWG”
Could be a bad cable.
