This is probably a dumb question, but my 2023 camry has push start, I’ve never had a car with it. Can I warm my car up in the morning and take my entire key fob back inside with me? Will my car turn off? Paranoid about it getting stolen with my leaving the key inside the vehicle. Thanks!

You can start your car with your phone. I work at a toyota dealership. Your salesperson should’ve done your connected sevices with you. With the toyota app, you can start, shutoff, lock, and unlock your vehicle. Along with maintenance schedules and any recall information. Get the app and save yourself the morning trips to start your car

If the vehicle is stolen after you’ve turned it on and left it the insurance company may consider not paying damages

It is grounds to getting stolen as the car will remain on until either it runs out of gas or is turned off by PTS button. I also recall you cannot lock the car while running from FOB after leaving. I’d recommend getting an aftermarket remote start.

Can you remote start with the fob? Click lock three times and hold for three seconds on the third time. I think that keeps the car locked as well.

You can’t start driving without the fob either way. If you get in the car you have to hit the brake and start button again after a remote start.

        It’s got remote start.

Try what this person is telling you with the lock button on your fob.

The car will shut off as soon as anyone touches the door.

My Crown doesn’t shut off the engine when the door is closed, but you can’t shift out of park until the key fob is present and you press the brake and start button.

I tried it and it didn’t work. I’m pretty sure I have to be subscribed to remote connect, but there isn’t an option for me to subscribe to it on the Toyota app

I’m not sure that’s true anymore. My mom got a Corolla Cross and it does not shut off when you open the door.

Interesting. My 23 Tundra shuts off when you touch the door handle.

I had read that maybe it’s different for different models.

Not from touching the door handle, but if you unlock the door it shuts off, and it unlocks when you touch the handle. Kinda annoying imo.

Cool I’ll have to try it later when I’m leaving work! I did the lock 3 times and nothing happened. But I forgot I was supposed to hold it. I had a 21 Corolla though and that didn’t work for it, so I’m doubtful

According to videos posted today (11/28/23), you can take your fob inside with you while the truck is warming up. Unlike the new tundras, the truck engine will not stop when you open the truck door you will however, need to press the start engine button again. Note this will not restart the engine, but allow the truck to become drivable. The truck will not be drivable without the fob so, as it seems, theft will be unlikely.

Yes. My car just beeps every once in a while when you get too far away from it with the key. But it will keep running.

What happens when you try it? Go ahead and try. I guarantee the car won’t explode. It might turn off though. So be prepared for that…

Just leave the key in there and if it’s stolen you covered by insurance otherwise you’re just gonna risk driving your car without the key and being stranded somewhere because you forgot your key at home.

Press the lock button three times. Somewhat slow and deliberately, holding it down on the third press. It will remote start. And in cold weather it cranks the defroster as well
