I went to a mechanic today he said my suspension was bad I originally went to him to get my sway bar check because my sway bar was creaking he didn’t point anything out like damages on the suspension springs he just shook my car a little bit and told me that I needed to get new springs
If you press down hard on your car and it bounces up and down a few times that’s a clear indication that you need new shocks.
A good mechanic would know that immediately
A bad spring is a fractured or broken spring. If it’s corroded it’s not a bad spring but an advisory that it may break soon. Sounds like the mechanic doesn’t have a clue. If the vehicle fails a “bounce” test the shock is dead. ( press the vehicle down by the front fender/wing ) if the vehicle bounces more than once or twice or doesn’t seem to settle the shock has blown. I wonder if he means the shock is bad. Shocks go bad all the time but for me coil springs can last absolutely years and years and won’t be replaced till they are broken or excessively corroded.
The only other condition I’d add to ‘bad spring’ is fatigued or collapsed but otherwise intact spring. Like the kind you see in the streetside-made stancemobiles or lowriders. Usually done with a torch to ruin the temper and allow the spring partially collapse.
He probably meant bad shocks and if you have McPherson struts it’s sometimes easier, safer and cheaper to replace the entire assembly which includes the springs.
The only real problem ive been having was the thing with the sway bar I ordered new ones its supposed to come in a week
Has it recently become cold where you are? It’s normal for strut mounts and bushings to creak in the cold.
