I have a 2011 Mazda CX-9. The car is AWD. Should all 4 wheels spin freely when on a lift and the car is in park and the parking brake is off? All 4 of the tires do spin freely. I believe I have a bad transfer case and was trying to diagnose if the transmission or transmission splines are shot before yanking the transfer case. Thank you for your help!
In park I don’t think the front wheels should rotate. Also, you can switch into AWD? I had a CX-7 and I thought it’s full time awd.
Thank you for your response,
I thought the same thing. There is a AWD button on the lower left dash. Default is AWD off. When the front tires start to slip the AWD automatically engages to compensate for the front tires slipping. The AWD button allows you to switch to AWD manually.
Yes, unless you have a locked differential. For park to work one set of wheels needs to have an equal amount of traction.
lol fun in the wintertime parking on icy slopes/driveways.
What if the ebrake just breaks while its parked? 😬😬😬
thi is why your supposed to turn the wheels the correct way so it rolls into the curb and hopefully catches.
Thank you for the helpful information!
What exactly are your symptoms that you think it’s a bad transfer case? Wheels spinning isn’t likely to be able to tell you anything about the transfer case.
