My wife and I have a 1999 Camry that we inherited from her grandma. It somehow only has 130k miles on it and a mechanic said it’s in great condition and may run for another decade.

We’re trying to invest some money into it to give it some modern amenities. We were looking at adding CarPlay and maybe a back up camera.

What do you feel is worth the cost and reliable enough to add to a car that old?

Don’t really have any advice to give on these aftermarket modifications. But if you end up not modding the Camry and want to get something more modern instead, I’ll buy it.

Invest in no bullshit and save money for repairs. Cars that sit have deferred maintenance issues once you actually start driving them.

seat covers… they will keep the seats from additional wear and they will still look amazing after another 100K.

Do NOT screw with it too much and it will live for another 25 years. Maybe update sound system and add cameras, but much more than that is needless. Cars weren’t THAT different in 1999.

Sound system. Anything else is a waste of money. I dropped $1k for one in my old Toyota. Put 140k miles on it. The sound system definitely enhanced the driving experience, and can be removed whenever the car inevitably reaches the end of its life.
