What are the down falls? We don’t have this in my area. I know the weather is a factor, that’s why I’m thinking spring time. I also need the time to get equipment (1 pump jack, electric impact (( don’t want to carry around an air compressor and all that)) jack stands, ramps and misc. things that have disappeared through the years.). I know I need insurance. I posted this in another sub, so just read that and help me please. I have got to be missing something. A long time ago there was a guy that did just oil changes and he did well. He came into the auto parts store I worked at. I kinda saw this business then. I want to focus on brakes, light maintenance. I won’t be spending 8 hrs. in someones drive way changing an engine, or timing belt, but an alternator or water pump would be good. Help me, give me your advice, please.

everything is hunky dorey until you get sued in small claims court. shops with a reputation and a business license have some kind of records to fall back on. a very litigious person can really swindle you out of a years earnings for losing a receipt, even if they sabotaged their own vehicle after your repair. sad world

I’m going to have a business license. Insurance and everything else. That’s all going to be a tax write off along with all the misc. tools that I need. I know how that works. Sadly about 10¢ on the $. Trust me I know. When a customer signs off to get their keys back (they will sign that before I get the keys). Everything will be done. Being sued is the least of my worries. In fact I expected most of this to be cash, so I was never there.

What insurance are you going to use? Most will only insure one location. Not mobile mechanics who usually go to the customer and will be working at different locations. You’ll need to look into that. There was one who did, but you had to nearly charge dealership rates to afford the overhead.
