I’m building a gaming PC, to play games like Overwatch 2, Valorant, Genshin Impact, CoD, Battlefield, Death Stranding. All at great resolution, high FPS.
I wan’t to also stream on twitch, discord, and edit/render videos.
Is this CPU a good option in 2023?
there should be no reason, if you buy new, to go anything but 12 13 or 14 Gen
It is good enough IF you already can run it without buying any parts except GPU
That cpu is ancient. Absolutely no reason to ever buy it in this day and age
Ancient? It’s only like 5 years old 🤓😂😂 which I guess is a long time for hardware.
6*
It’s about 10% slower than a Ryzen 5600x in games.
My 8700K (with a 1080 at the time) was already struggling to hold 60 FPS in Black Ops Cold War at 1440p medium to low settings.
Unless you’re on a tight budget you should get a more modern CPU and absolutely do not buy an 8700 new, my K version new goes for the same price as a 12th gen that would kick its ass, the prices for older gens don’t seem to be adjusting as newer models come out
that’s completely untrue. i had an 8700k / 3070 and was getting 100+ on 1440p high
Why are you buying such an old CPU? It’s not bad but there are probably better alternatives if you are looking for something right now.
I should’ve mentioned I currently have this CPU, I got it for free lol.
But is it only the CPU or is it the CPU+ everything you need?
Since if you only got the CPU,
but no Motherboard, RAM already etc…
there is really no point at all in buying such old components.
I have the B360 DS3H Gigabyte MOBO.
The CPU comes with built in Graphics. Someone said I can buy a good GPU and be set.
But what If I need to upgrade my CPU and MOBO later on? Do I have to buy one thats compatible with that GPU?
Yeah I’d just buy a used 2080ti and you’ll be ok for a bit
Someone said I can buy a good GPU and be set.
Yes. It’ll play games now, and a good GPU will still play games when you upgrade the CPU/motherboard years down the road.
But what If I need to upgrade my CPU and MOBO later on? Do I have to buy one thats compatible with that GPU?
No, GPUs only need a PCIe 16x slot which is on every motherboard. It’ll work with any future upgrade.
There are newer versions of PCIe coming out that are faster, but all of them use the same slot and are fully backwards compatible (both ways, newer PCIe on GPU works with older PCIe on motherboard, newer PCIe on motherboard works with older PCIe on GPU)
So what’s the best GPU you can Recommended me for the MOBO+CPU i’m currently using.
It needs to be strong enough that I can stream and I want minimum 60FPS on all those games I listed. Maybe even 120FPS?
My budget for a GPU is $400
Performs around an Intel 10400 or Ryzen 3600 when not power restrained ( it runs at 4.3GHZ and boosts up to 4.6 on single threaded workloads. ) Still sips power in most games.
Have that CPU running along a 3070, it still purrs like a kitten in most games except a few exceptions that have crap optimisation that came out this year.
It’s 100% worth it if you got it for free, what do you have to lose?
But if you want to stream, it’ll be a no go unless you stream using the GPU.
I see you already have both a B360 board and the CPU itself. They’re pretty good still in 2023 and shouldn’t limit anything you’re trying to do. With a 600-700 budget, you should definitely spend most of it on a graphics card, as that is what is gonna drive most of your gaming and productivity. If you don’t have them already, RAM and SSDs are pretty cheap nowadays, so don’t overspend on those parts.
no, its a long dead platform thats been surpassed by miles in terms of performance to price
Good CPU but why in 2023? Its getting outdated. My last build from last year contained that cpu. I guess it’s good if you are going for a low end 1080p build.
