Fixing to head to Mexico in a few weeks and was planning to take a 4321 Cisco router with me to replace the router that’s at the house I have over there. Only problem is they’ve got a weird setup there, and it’s something l’m not familiar with.
The modem they use is a FIBRASTORE RO015FT WiFi fiber onu device, seems like a cheap Chinese multifunction router but it has a coax and fiber connection coming into it…pretty sure I need a module for the coax which I can pickup for cheap but still unsure how that’s even supposed to work. I figured the WAN is coming in on the fiber but maybe I could be wrong? Was wondering any have some advice on what i should do or consider?
You’d do better by finding out more information about your Mexico ISP and what are their requirements than asking here. Find out if you’re required to use their gateway, how that gateway is connected, and whether or not the gateway can be put into “Bridge Mode” or “Passthrough Mode” to support your own router.
Most likely your Cisco is all you need if the gateway can be put into Bridge Mode, OR you have fiber service with an ONT and no requirements to use their gateway (just return it to them). But checking with the ISP is easier than us guessing what is needed from them.
Hi,
I’m based in mexico, which ISP company is and what are your goals with the networking? just to replace? there are only a few companies that are on fiber and some with coaxial, mostly they are ONT in case with fiber some are under cgnat. the coaxial companies do the same.
