I’m looking at a really nice 2021 m340. It’s RWD and I live in the Seattle area so we get lots of rain. Wondering if anyone has experience with how a current rwd m340 handles in those conditions? Should I just keep looking for one with xdrive?

RWD, Lsd, and most importantly good set of tires. Michelin ps as4 or get a set of winter wheels and summer set if you have the space in garage. Never had issue with winter sotto zero3 over the passes.
X drive is definitely worth it in your case

If you turn DSC off and act like an idiot then it’s a different story, but that’s true anywhere.
I live in the Seattle area also and I had an f80 m3 for 8 years. You just have to learn not to floor it and take main roads that get salted/sanded when it snows. I also had ps4s summer tires loved them all year around. Great in the rain.
So what you’re saying is I should worry about getting snow tires for my f80 and just send it this winter? Take the chance?
Depends on which part you live in the “Seattle area.” Like issaquah gets a lot more snow and smaller rural streets don’t get sanded. If it’s going to be your only car and you have a long commute it might be worth it. I personally had summer tires and I was fine.
One thing to consider is that X Drive is heavier and sacrifices a bit of steering feel. Another is that every sporty car has a core configuration and then a bunch of other options to try to expand the market. Inline 6 RWD is the core. Let’s not forget the LSD either.
Having said all this, I currently have an RS3 on order, still debating on that…
Also from Seattle. E30/E92 guy. When it snows we close 🤷♂️. Don’t drive on the slopes and you won’t go skiing. Don’t drive like an idiot and you probably won’t find the walls. Have good insurance.
I’m so used to AWD and it’s rigid comfort I do not feel the appeal of a 2WD when I get in a FWD or RWD car.
Honestly the only benefit of RWD is it’s ability to handle corners but you need to be a skilled driver depending on the car. AWD has more traction, torque, and better for commuting.
Rain? Lmao. It’s fucking rain. Yes RWD is fine and more than adequate. If you don’t neglect your tires you’re good.
RWD is fine even in snowy areas if you actually get snow tires.
Not sure where this myth of RWD being hard to handle came from. All the car’s Nannies take care of you.
